Like the shadowing effect.

Factory second? Replacement blade??? Don't know but I too find it interesting.
Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will chime in.

Maybe Schrade made for sale by another company?
That's my best guess. Maybe it had some hardware company's name inked on it that has since worn off. If it was a factory second, I would expect to find evidence that the Schrade logo had been ground off. That does not appear to be the case. T-A

Would a factory second have been serialized for the guarantee against loss, though?
I may be (probably am?) wrong, but I doubt the seconds were covered by that guarantee. I'm not sure if the factory seconds were even covered under the normal "lifetime" guarantee against defects in materials and workmanship. How could they be?
As a "Second" there was/is an issue found by QC that prevented it from leaving the factory as a "first" quality knife. It was probably a cosmetic "defect" (cracked cover at a pin, for example) rather than something more serious that affected the operation/functionality of the knife, that would earn "Second" status and a slightly discounted price. Whatever it was, it was likely something that the knife could have been sent in for warranty repair, if the seconds were covered by the standard warranty/guarantee.

Doesn't seem likely to me that this knife is a second quality piece. In my experience, seconds would likely have the maker's mark ground off or would have a letter "S" cold-stamped on the tang. If it had a replacement blade, I would expect it to be maker-marked. I'm betting it was inked or lightly etched or paper-labeled with a third party name. We may never know for sure. Thanks for your feedback. T-A
