Congrats on the new home, Kyle, and thanks a million for the great WIP. The extra work involved in bringing the process to us is greatly appreciated!

Congratulations, looks like a great relaxing spot.

Thanks for the WIP pictures, looking forward to the rest.

Thanks for all the great words everyone! You all are very encouraging. :-)

There are tons of trees in the yard providing lots of shade. Some are oak among other kinds. There are a few dead/dying trees in the yard I need to cut down too. So much work to do... :D

Just got done ordering some materials for this knife, stainless steel, gold and transfer paper for the engraving I'll be doing. Taking pictures as I go. I'll post some more up in a couple days.

Kyle, congratulations on the new house and shop. They look great, plenty of shop space. Thank you for the WIP, I always enjoy yours. I look forward to seeing this one come together.

Congratulation on the new house and shop Kyle, looks great. I can imagine the work to get settled in both so a big thanks for taking some of that precious time to share all this with us.

PS: Thanks Kevin for the sword handle pics. Those go right into my inspiration bin. :D

Beautiful, peaceful property. Man, the shop is Nice. Congrats, Kyle! Very happy for you

I love WIP threads that are done right, and this one is. The process is fascinating, particularly to someone like me who has no skills in an art like this. Anxious to see the completed piece.

Yep Patrice, some of the Hanger Hunting Swords were pretty elaborate. Notice the 'Knife & Folk' set housed in the sheath for ease in dinning in the field.
I asked Kyle about including dinning utensils for this Bowie's sheath but he wouldn't go for it. ;):D

But seriously, it's really going to be a treat to see Kyle bring this one to life, especially with his working with the stainless and his engraving. I really appreciate his
extra effort in sharing this with us all.

Very nice Kyle!

Reminds me of a knife-maker I knew in north Fl. Bought a place out in the country, regular house with a big shop. Went to look at it, checked out the shop real good. Realtor said lets check out the house, knife-maker said no need, I'll take it... :)

Beautiful knife

Hello Boggs.
"Hangers" were most commonly used on European Short Hunting Swords as methods for 'hanging' their swords on objects and for addition hand protection.
They also tended to be very decorative additions to the gentleman's sword as these weapons were status symbols in the day. Hangers appeared on some larger Bowies more as decorative/design elements. You can find examples in some of the antique bowie books.

I'm not very sure about hanger bowies but if we are talking about European area, "hanger" come from "hancer" which is a Turkish curved dagger.

Hello Alex. Not referring to Turkish curved daggers but European Hunting Swords w/ "hanger" style guards like the examples above.

Yes, thanks for your explanations. I thought that was a mistake because "hanger" in English has a similar pronunciation with "hancer".

Kyle: Congratulations on your new home. Looks like a great place to grow a happy family. Space is good, in yards as well as workshops. - - I really appreciate the WIP. Educational for me, but especially for explaining the basics of the process to my family so they can understand better what goes into a fine forged knife and why I get excited about them. Thanks, Bob L
