Work knives

Here's some leather working knives that work for a living:

I made the roundknife. Its used for cutting out the leather. The two swivel knives are used for cutting the pattern to be carved later.

Retired UPS Driver,

The bottom Frontier I carried for about the first 15 years. The Camillus Lev-R-Loc in the middle was originally a non-serrated model, but I lost that one on a hunting trip after just 5 years, the one pictured (it’s replacement) was for the final 10 years. The Socom is just for size comparison.

Prior to UPS, Lineman w/Buck-119 & Razor Knife.

I used to have one of those lev-r-locs, a tanto. Wonder whatever happened to it.

Been a desk jockey for the family's insurance agency since 2003. First 10 years was a variety of SOG folders. Mostly a mini x-ray vision in ATS-34. Found BF in 2013 and it's been downhill since.

Not only am I an insurance agent, I'm the IT guy (build and repair our computers, networking, etc) and pretty much any mechanical or electrical repairs/installation.

After 70 years, we are selling the business. Going to be able to stay on to help transition our 👋 over the next year or so. New owners offered to hire me permanently if I was interested.

Every day I have a Vic Evolutions 18 in my watch pocket and one of my various folders as well. Im a support worker so it's usually a Kershaw Bracket because it barely has a tip and I wouldn't seriously hurt anyone I'm working with if they grabbed at it.
I also carry a Böker Rangebuster in my bag for cutting up food or for handing to people I won't trust with something decent.

Like Horsewright Horsewright , horses are my living, though I'm not a rancher or cattleman. I go through a variety of knives all the time depending on what strikes my fancy in the morning. One thing common to them all is that they must be easily retrieved and put into action when I need them (and yet I still don't favor one hand openers or thumb-studs or pocket clips).

Here's today's knife:

I was a millwright. In the year before retirement I was carrying a Benchmade Griptilian for work. But in my career I carried everything from a Buck 110 and up.

Some companies only allow you to carry those stupidly dangerous Olfa type with the spring loaded blade(the ones that get back in as soon as you let go of a button), obviously decided by some office type who never used a tool in their entire life.

For me it really depends on what I'm doing. I don't have a one size fits all solution.

My edc for the past month has been a Kershaw Lightyear. As I mentioned in another thread, I've become a big fan.

I use a Leatherman Wave that I've had for 20 years pretty often when I'm working around the farm. I just don't generally carry it if I'm not at at the farm as I'm not a huge fan of it on my belt in public.

If I'm going hunting, I often carry my Buck PakLite. It's been a great knife for skinning deer, and I've been using it for the past 7-8 years. It's held up well. The same as the Leatherman though, I'm not fond of carrying a fixed blade on my belt in everyday situations. So unless I'm going hunting I usually leave it at home.

They each server their purpose and I don't feel like any of them are really interchangeable with the other.

Before I retired my "normal" (for me) daily carry was a Buck 110 or Old Timer 7OT or 6OT on my belt, a large stockman and a SAK Huntsman or a 4 blade Scout/Camp knife or a "Demo" knife in my pocket, and a SAK Signature on my keyring..
Job duties included (in no particular order) grounds keeper, maintenance, mechanic, show car get ready (company vehicles and boss' cars) truck driver (company IHC cab over semi pulling a 28 foot trailer) chauffeur, traffic director (made sure the proper ads ran on schedule at a TV station) executive secretary, assistant chief engineer, electrify equipment racks (TV station) receptionist, (TV station) VP Corporate Security) Collect cover charge at two night clubs, assistant manager at two night clubs, manager at a combination convenience store/game room/ pizza parlor, a night club, a liquor store, and a strip club, minor building repair and maintenance (electrical, plumbing, painting interior and exterior) assemble 3 meter satellite dishes and mount them on the poles, warehouse manager and watchman, house manager for a ocean front vacation property in the Florida Keys, Marine mechanic (boss' charter boat), Book Keeper, inventory control, Human Resources (hire/fire) bar back when needed at the clubs, cook, weeknight (M ~ TH) DJ at one of the night clubs, custodian (janitor) cash register jockey ... I'm sure I'm forgetting some of my duties at that company. Prior to working at that company I was a machinist, in the field fabrication welder, fence builder, mechanic, autobody repairman and painter, and for a while had my own tee trimming/removal, lot/garage/basement cleaning, and minor demolition and remodeling company, and a class A (65+ passenger) school bus driver. I also did some assembly work at a couple factories in my much younger days while in Highschool.

Since retiring I carry whatever I feel like. This week's carry for example, is a Leatherman Charge+ TTI (with accessories) and SAK Hercules on my belt, a 3.652" canoe, 4.25" moose pattern, 3.75" sowbelly stockman, and a 58mm SAK Mini Champ in my pocket. I also have a 3" neck knife on. 😁
Not sure what I'll carry in addition to the SAK's, LM, and neck knife next week. I'll probably put the SAK Evo Grip 14 back in my pocket in place of the canoe, but other than that I haven't decided. Might swap in a regular large or extra large stockman, too.
