Worst 3 Steels - Never Buy!

No top 3 here. The only "would not buy" is anything that is not identified, like surgical stainless or Paki damascus.

Let's talk apples. My best apple peeler is using high carbon T12 steel. I don't think Cedric ever tested this steel, as it is not in the list the OP copied. It possibly may perform poorly in a sisal rope cut test. But let's not compare sisal with apples.
Anyway, the reason it is the best apple peeler for me is the ergonomics of the handle for apple peeling. The quality of the steel is not that important when peeling apples. I only eat one apple at the time.
My 20CV ZT0562CF may peel 1000 apples more and still be sharp, but the handle is just not made to peel apples very well. Although, in an emergency, it will peel an apple just fine.
Different knives for different apples strokes...

I went and looked at Ankerson's list and he DID NOT call those steel "low-end". You did. He ranked them by caregory in terms of edge holding. You are putting words in his mouth.

And I only would have made one post if you had only made one post I found going against logic.

To be honest with you, I do not know where I got that list from, I may have put that nomenclature there, I do not know. I don't save the URLs for every item in my notes.

Oh? So, you don't think a Buck 110 would be able to do as well in your fantasy self defense scenario as a say, a Spyderco S110V Military (to keep blade lengths equalish). Really? So, if you had the Military, you could just chop the guy in half, but with the pedestrian Buck 110 in pedestrian 420HC, you wouldn't even be able to slice the other guy's shirt open?

LOL I'm sorry, but your response is hilarious. People get killed with cheap steel kitchen knives every day on this planet, and you're saying you somehow need S110v for self defense?

Ultimately, the most amusing thing for me is that if I had to choose between the two knives above, I'd DEFINITELY take the Buck 110 as a better self-defense option. Getting punched in the face with a fistful of like, seven lbs of Buck brass and steel would probably deter most attackers immediately.

I've used a knife in self defense once and it was S35VN. And NO, I did not cut anyone. The 5 guys that were kicking and punching me stopped. I have studied approx 10 martial arts, 5 of which are Filipino knife arts.

And have $20,000 worth of knives!

So what does the SD statement have to do with anything? You have never dulled a knife edge in SD. So you don't know if 420J2 suits your needs as well as any other steel, correct? A block of Velveeta could be even better.

Not from your experience. Just from lists you are citing from someplace you don't remember where.

WHOOOOSSSHHHHH right over your head.

So, what you're saying is that those martial arts you've studied (somehow five different Filipino knife arts) all require top super steel knives in order to be effective. No way you could be just as effective with a $3 Wal-Mart steak knife, correct? Kind of like how masters in the Philippines all use 3V Balisongs, kerambits, espadas, and so on? Or maybe they're all S90v?

I can be deadly with a pen or pencil, but I like to carry premium steel knives.

The best steel is CPMarcinek-X37Z. It has the best edge retention. I know from not having used it in knife fights and from reading a list somewhere someplace.

That is what you are saying. You should know by now you are dealing with too experienced and sophisticated a crowd to just swallow that.

Stuff like that might fly on YouTube, but not here. Sorry.

~ 5 "different Filipino arts," hey what do you know, it's actually SIX:

- Inayan
- Mata Sa Bagyo
- SLD - Serrada, Largo Mano, Dequerdas
- Bahala Na
- Headhunters
- Defensor Method

So, what you're admitting to right now is that yes, knives made of what you consider (because someone on YouTube told you what to think) lesser steels are actually just as effective as your super steels, correct? I just want to make sure I have it clear.

By the way? Any idiot can be deadly with a sharp shiv-shaped implement if prison's any indication. Perhaps all those prisoners using improvised shanks are all secretly masters of the mystic five knife arts? I guess it could be possible.

Are Ferraris fast? How abt Lamborghinis?

DO I HAVE TO DRIVE ONE BEFORE I BUY?

Alright, the BS is getting super deep in here, so I'll see myself out. When the fantasy stories start dropping, I'm out.

See, now you are all falling back in to personal attacks. All of you refuse to stick to the initial premise.

If an ADMIN shut this thread, it would not bother me in the least.

Yeeeeaaahhhhh, which schools have you trained at? Who are your teachers? What's their lineage? I feel like Bullshido.com would destroy your claims pretty much instantly. This really reads like a Google list you just looked up.
