Worst Accidental Cut?

Cut off my left finger with a kabar bk2,it was hanging by a piece of skin, after 9 hours in the emergency, all atitched up and ready to go. Still hurts now and then...

OK.

I purchased a Springfield 1903 rifle @ a gun show in Texas.

As many of you know, they tie the action open @ these shows.

I had been looking for one of these guns for years and they were either too beat up or $$$ for my tastes to purchase them.

When I got home I naturally wanted to remove the tie. I first got a pair of sissors but to use them I might mar the finish (can't have that).

I used an old Swiss Army Knife i've had for years. I was using an overhand grip on the action and actually thought to myself (this is a really bad idea) when the knife cut through the tie "like butter" and into the knuckle of my index finger through and through.

It had obviously invaded the joint and the veins on the thumb side of my hand as it bleed quite profusly. I never felt a thing (sharp knife) and suddenly realized I was bleeding all over my gun (absolutely unacceptable).

I washed the wound and bound it pretty tight; my wife was insistent that I go to the ER but NOT UNTIL I CLEANED THE GUN. I had waited years to obtain it and would not allow rust to ruin it.

My wife still gives me a hard time about it. I nicked some tendons (extensor) as well and still cannot extend the index finger of my left hand completely. I have full function of the hand though.

It causes no issue, the gun is in good shape and I still collect knives (much to my wifes dismay).

That's my story and i'm sticking to it.

Was finishing up sharpening a Khukuri House kukri, lost my grip on the sharpener, and the kukri sliced off a layer of skin from the top of the joint on my right pointer finger. Still have a scar from it. That's probably the worst...though a couple of days ago I was sitting inspecting my Cold Steel Talwar XL, my cat dashed into my room at max speed and leaped past me, startling me, and causing me to drop the knife. It landed edge first on my foot, and even though it didn't fall far at all, it landed with enough force to leave a fairly sizeable cut.

i was drilling some bridging holes in a persian blade blank i had jut finnished, it was a 6 inch blade and i had just finnished the grind on i it so was exstremaly sharp. it turn out i did not fasten it good enugh, since i was drilling with a hand drill i was quite exsposed to the blade and when i was allmost trough the knife started spinning and i got two 1,5 inch deep and 4 inches wide cuts on my upper thie, 18 stitches in all and 4 weeks to fully recover.

Was oiling/cleaning one of my khukuri from EGKH, a 10 inch Kothimora when I feel a stinging sensation on the top of my middle finger. Little slice where my distal joint would be, shallow enough to not require anything but some pressure but it did not stop bleeding for a while and ached for a while after that. Not very impressive when compared to most posts on this thread but this is the first and only time I've cut myself with any of my blades, been collecting sharp pointy things for 10 years.

Told myself I was going to do this before it happened as I was splitting knotty wood with a 3.5" fixed blade on a cold night. 13 stitches. Hit the bone, which saved me from taking the finger all the way off. I have since improved my methods.

An old thread, but ones like this deserve to be revived. I've luckily avoided getting any REALLY horrific cuts, but the worst I've had was this past summer when I was mowing the lawn (with my scythe) and was a bit sleepy and distracted. Went to wipe some grass from the blade before touching it up and gave the heel a little "love tap" with the first joint of my left ring finger. Very light tap, but cut instantly down to the bone and nicked my tendon. Took months for that to heal up.

i was trying to clear some paint out of a hinge on a door so it would fit right, then my knife got stuck, so i jerked it right into my right thumb, it went in a few milometers. It bled for a few days. I was almost certain i cut a tendon and needed a tetanus shot

Here's mine from last year:

Not too long ago I managed to cut myself with my newest knife, a CRK Professional Soldier. Guess I'll have to keep her now.

I managed to run out of paper towels in the kitchen shortly before cutting myself. I had to use a coffee cup so I didn't drip blood on the carpet when I ran to grab another roll:

It doesn't look too bad afterwards, but man did that bleed everywhere--it even sprayed a bit on the wall!

And yes, the first thing I thought of when I realized it wasn't hospital-worthy was that I should take pictures to post up on BF...

This past summer i was chopping branches with my cold steel kukri machete (just sharpened) and after going through a branch 1" in diameter like butter the next object in its path was my knee. Im still not sure exactly how it happened but three huge stitches later (a hundred bucks a piece) and i was back in action.

Was out fishing two days ago and cut my finger. Was typical movie squinting blood everywhere. . . Never seen it before, so I must of cut a small vein.

But the dood with the son who hit his head on a rock is by far the craziest thing I have seen in my life.... speechless...

I cut a good chunk off my finger, I didn't think to bring the peice with me when I went to the hospital. I thought I was going to loose half my nail and end up difigured, I got extremely lucky and it all grew back. This was a couple years ago, I was doing cut tests with my Benchmade Bedlam, well it was sharp. I never got pics of the real gore shot, the second pic is from 2 months healing, it took a good 6+ months for the nail to grow back completely.

No pics but gave myself 4 stiches across the top of my left index finger between my fingernail and first knuckle trying to seat and retract a brand new fixed blade from its tight sheath. Wife is a nurse and took me to ER with our first child age two. Wife was none too pleased to say the least :)

Edit: just saw the above post. How I am supposed to compete with that.

Just got my left thumb with a old mercator while test chopping paper. HOLY
sliced half of the fingernail off, so i have some problem typing.:(
just decide not to do this same stupid thing again cause the doctor said that i can't do any outdoor stuff for one month!

My next door neighbor was using his leg to prop up a board while he cut it with a chainsaw. He almost completely severed his leg and was lucky doctors were able to save it. That was the loudest I've ever heard a man scream.

btw, yes he was an idiot.

I closed my freshly sharpened SAK main blade across my pant leg and my finger felt warm. I looked at a 1/4 inch round spot of muscle, not skin on the tip of my bird finger. Pressed my thumb against it as blood started to seep faster from it. The med center had me soak it in ice water and Betadine till the bleeding stopped and they bandadged it. Still have the scar, a round spot with no fingerprint.

That's my worst.

Washing a bagel slicer with a sponge, knife flipped in my hand, cut through the sponge and 8 stitches deep into the webbing between my right thumb and forefinger.

When I was 16, I was cutting out the nock of an arrow i was making, with one hand holding the arrow straight up and down on the ground... Put a little too much pressure on it, and my knife split right down the arrow, about 5" and into my thumb. Almost cut a dime sized chunk off of the side! Best part is, I was on vacation with my friend's family, on an Island without a hospital in the San Juans of Washington State... Luckily the ferry arrived just as we pulled into the terminal, and I was getting stitches about 2 hours later :)
