Worst knife you've ever spent money on. How much was it?

Hahaha! Dude, I was gonna bring up HTM!! I just didn't have any first hand experience. Oh man. I almost bought a Gunhammer too. They were soooo good looking! What a bummer. I'm glad you were about to recover it somewhat at least.
I was just getting into customs, or knives for that matter. All I had before that was 2 BM auto's and a Kershaw. Saved up for a while for two DDR Gunhammers. Both were over 1500 each. Biggest waste of my money!! Felt cheap, the assist open was garbage and would have broke if I didn't sell them right away(at a huge loss). My DDR Maxx I bought after assist spring broke many times. The gun hammer blade geometry was awful too! Sold them for less than 50%
Live an learn I guess. I got some very awesome blades now!
That said. The Dominator seems to be performing well, it sounds like. Seems to be a better design. I have been tempted, but I keep remembering my other 3 DDR knives I bought. Definitely should've went with manual open! OR I could have just went with a PM2 and worked my way up from there, then back down as I have done.

I bought both of these for about $20 each from an overstock site:
Gerber Skyridge Assisted, it had a crack in the tang of the blade, the assist was so weak I could actually flick the knife closed, it developed rust spots within two days of being taken out of the package, and all the screws sstripped out when I tried to disassemble it.

CRKT Tighe Rade, it actually has a decent action for a button lock flipper, but the edges of the aluminum handle are sharper than the blade, and the blade doesn't cut, it wedges through things. It has a really bad compound grind with no transition between the two grinds, so there's a big 90 degree edge in the middle of the blade that everything gets caught on.

An Emerson Roadhouse. What an immense disappointment in every way short of aesthetics.

I can't believe that someone could handle a knife like what I received and tell me that it was worth $30, let alone $225.

Knife from a knifemaker "friend" of mine who had just started out. Knife was cruder and more sloppily built than an earlier one I had bought from him, but by the time I bought this one he had already convinced himself he was hot stuff. He way overcharged for it (he probably should have just given it to me for review at that point in his "career"), and got pissy when my positive review was not gushing and glowing enough for him.

A couple from over well over 20 years ago come to mind. The CRKT - K.I.S.S. was a bad design that would close when pressure was applied to the handle. Still have the scar to prove it.
I still have that one. Yet another abomination from CRKT.

... I threw it in the trash and it’ll be a cold day in hell before I buy a CRKT again.
Pretty much my general feelings toward that company although I own a couple CRKT Razels. These are just fine for what I use them for.

Spyderco Southard I got for $150, I was super excited and loved the design for a long time, finally got a chance for one after they were discontinued, now just want to get rid of it. Such a huge let down. The action was fine the first hour or so I played with it, then out of nowhere it just got gritty and extremely tough to open and close. Let it sit for a few hours and try again, its perfect. Open it a few times and it gets gritty again. One body screw stripped with little to no torque, gave up on it afterwards.

Second, a Benchmade full size Crooked River for a little over $200 total after the price went up on them a year or so ago. Terrible centering, the blade dulled extremely quickly with basic use (opening boxes and plastic wrap at work), and the scale on the presentation side snapped at the lanyard hole. Contacted Benchmade about it and said it was $80 for a new set of scales. I have heard of other people having their scales break in the exact same place and getting new handle scales for free, so i will not be paying for new scales. Decided to try and make some new ones myself. First Benchmade ever, was not impressed at all. Still interested in them, but very skeptical ever since.

I realize this wasn't a "rant about your bad knives" thread, but just some insight on the subjects at hand I suppose lol

Damn that sucks man. I'm sorry you had to deal with that. The hype was insane for those knives for a while. Hard not to get caught up in it. Then I just remember people opening the knife like three times and developing dramatic lockrock and all kinds of terrible problems. Some of the horror stories, like yours, had me straight up hyperventilating lol

Kershaw Shuffle 1. Bought 2 for $10 each to give as gifts.
Had a bottle opener that was useless and just an all around crap knife.

Oh my. It's a Quick Flip from Boker. It opened twice in my pants pocket. Cut me bad in the thigh.
Worst locking system I've ever experienced
I think I paid around 100$ for it in the 90's. It's not produced anymore. Fortunately.
I kept it as a reminder of staying more conservative haha.

That looks terrible.

I love it.

It looks like a worse version of the Schrade Viper, which is in itself a wonderful POS knife!

One of the first few knives I bought with my own money as a teenager was a rather large folder. For the life of me, I cannot remember what it was. I want to say it was a Boker, but I can't say for sure. Anyways, I discovered after purchasing it that the detent was virtually useless. I'd find the blade open in my pocket and could open it with very little pressure. You could close it to within about 90% of being closed, and it wouldn't snap shut. It'd just stay in that position with the tip of the blade barely exposed from the handle. It also had some kind of inlays on the handle that were glued in and came unglued very quickly.

Way back in 2014 or so, I dropped an ungodly amount of money on a Will Moon custom. It wad already made, and he said he would change the anodization on it and ship it out in a week. Fast forward to 5 months of BS excuses from him later, and I finally get the knife... with terrible gritty action, blade play, horrible centering, really rough and dodgy finishing on the scales, and he didn’t even do the anodization that he kept saying was already done. $1300 for a garbage knife from a garbage maker.

My dad had a very similar dealing with Mr. Moon. He bought an already completed fixed blade. Will said he just needed to finish the kydex sheath for it. It was several months and numerous excuses before he ever got it. My dad told him to just refund his money and not worry about it. Low and behold it was in the mail later that day. Dad was so peeved about the whole situation he couldn't enjoy the knife.
