Would anyone else be upset with jimping like this?(resolved)

A product was sold to you and based on what Im seeing and hearing it was not complete. The truth is you should have returned it and demanded a refund. This whole situation is unacceptable. And after a full blade redo that’s still what you end up with? No. No.

Just to add to my post. Advice I would give for another option. If you really love this knife and cant part with it I would understand that. There are some great knife customizers on this forum that could fix that for you.

Considering you can find better jimping in budget knives, I would absolutely send that back. However, the fact that they sent you THAT as the replacement blade? Is ridiculous for a custom maker and frankly if they're being extremely difficult? It's worth just posting the name and a proper review of what you genuinely think of the knife in the review forum. A custom with poor workmanship like that coming out once isn't ideal and shouldn't ever happen.

It also sounds like you had to convince them? That you deserve a replacement blade? Pictures and a complaint should be enough when you're getting into higher price ranges. I'd personally go to the review forum and post the review of what they believe is a piece worth putting out, making sure to list their name.

So, I don't like ragging on peoples work. But looking at the pivot area and where the washers or bearings (I assume) run and the detent path, the jimping would be the least of my complains. I mean that looks all uneven with burrs and just plain blah to me. Even if the pictures / lighting exaggerates it, it looks like whoever made it was eager to get it out the door without caring about quality.

The knife is undoubtedly a Darrel Ralph ADO. Probably $4-5k...

Yeah I am inclined to agree. Was looking into Ralph's work after you pointed it out. That flipper is very identifiable. Frankly at that price range, I expect perfection on the first run and a no questions asked level of customer service. Looking at that action as well, ,makes the whole deal even more egregious.

ya it is and I have had it in the works for over a half year and wanted this model full dress for a long time. It'
Very disappointing to spend that kind of money on anything with obvious flaws an untrained eye could spot let alone someone of that profession. Like I said the handles are beautiful but the blade...

Crazy thing is I asked for a standard bowie blade and not a recurve both times lol, refunding may be an option but I have my heart set on this and so I suppose sending back till they get it is the only option.

Your absolutely right, and although getting what I want is proving difficult. I greatly respect anyone who has made a name for themself for quality and if they are willing I will try to get this perfect before I drag anyone' reputation through the mud in a review that wouldn' be glowing. Thanks for the insight

Yes I the jimping is honestly one of the more minor mistakes in the blade, which is sad in itsef. I just wanted to open a dialog to get others impressions and advice to help navigate the situation. I have always bought customs from the secondary market so I knew exactly what I was getting but this is a much different experience.

Look on the bright side, this may be the closest you get to a Michael Walker Zipper:D

If your newly acquired expensive custom gives you a funny feeling in your gut, and not the good kind...

You should send it back.
Ya I am going to I have decided. I just hate anticipating that moment where they act like your crazy for finding fault in it. It helps to hear that others expect just as much as I do in fit and finish and are in disbelief it left the shop like that

Very poor craftmanship on a very expensive piece. Not that I could do any better myself. Keep us updated! Sorry to hear that they're giving you a hard time already!

Ya custom , mokuti every thing. I don't know what to do? it they already replaced the blade once because it wasn' up to snuff so this would be round two. The detent path us pretty terrible when it approaches the ramp and the action is suffering so bad.
This is brand new...

I don’t own a custom and don’t want to come off like I do but this looks like shit. If you asked for a standard clip,it’s not. The inside of it looks rough as hell, like friction fire rough. There’s no way I would pay whatever it is you did. I would just talk to the man, explain exactly how you feel. Don’t be aggressive, don’t hold back, don’t take no for an answer. I understand not wanting to hurt feelings or seem unreasonable but I wouldn’t be talked out of it. That’s unacceptable man. Confidence but not cockiness is key.
