Would it be dishonest?

Maybe REI's prices wouldn't be so high if they didn't have to deal with shady returns like the OP's?

It's a valid point, but to my knowledge, their high prices and excellent return policy have always gone hand in hand. That's not to say that it doesn't have a negative effect - like I mentioned, REI recently had to scale back their return policy. But from what I understand, it more had to do with habitual "gear renters" that would wear stuff out after several years and essentially just exchange them out.

It's unfortunate for the rest of us, and OP isn't helping. But all I'm saying is that REI accounts for this, and OP's case isn't unusual or all that egregious as far as what REI sees, so some of this overreaction needs to be managed accordingly.

Justifying theft by claiming the store involved knows it goes on is still justifying theft.

The store in question could have the most stringent return policy in the history of retail sales and the guy involved would still be a liar and a thief. The one has nothing to do with the other.

This is exactly what I'm talking about. You can disagree with OP all you want, but calling them a thief when they're doing nothing wrong per the rules of the return policy is just plain stupidity.

Agreed, lying requires the intent to deceive.

Unless you consider the OP a liar for the reason he is returning the knife(blade play) when in actuality he is tired of it or whatever, then yes he is lying to return it.

You are entitled to your own opinion, however misguided it may be.

Believing a liar is just plainer stupidity.

REI isn't going to reject the return for any reason as long as it's within the year. OP could literally say "I just don't want it anymore" and it'd be fine. I wouldn't agree with him doing it, but he can.

You guys are making me defend something I obviously don't agree with morally. But come on, be factual here.

I never said I believed him one way or the other. In fact, I clearly said it's irrelevant.

You keep ignoring the facts and resorting to straw men. If eventually you want to actually read what I wrote and take the time to understand it, please do so. But until then, I'm not really interested in your ignorant and misinformed opinion.

The douche is obviously gone now and likely won't be back to this thread since we're not all jumping up high fiving his devious plan to work the system.

No point continuing the convo, the only good thing that came from this post was now everyone knows who not to do business with due to their lack of morals.

Please put me on ignore.

For someone not interested in what I write you spend an inordinate amount of time responding to it.

Exactly.

He has 18 posts here he stirred the pot got a uproar on morals and left we all know what he did was wrong remember his name and don't do business with him so long goodbye

Personally I would just keep the mnjfe or sell it on the exchange or bay. There are knives ive bought that didn't really have anything wrong with them but i just could not like no matter what. Those knives ended up here and I either got money for them or a trade I liked. It usually takes me a few months to decide that. You had the knife for a year and finally want to do something about it because warranty time is running up, if they had a 2 year return policy, would you have waited another year before doing something about it? At the end of the day, nor me or other members are in your shoes and have to go with that decision in our head to bed, so do what makes you feel comfortable. If it was me (kinda sounds like you're having second thoughts if you're ssking opinions here so you know its not 100% kosher) id feel terrible returing a used knife to a store and getting my money back. Like others said, put yourself in their shoes, what are they supposed to do with a used knife. They can't sell it, so they'll end up eating the cost. Good knife shops are hard to come by so we should treat them good. I believe in "treat others how you want to be treated".

You misunderstand.

I don't put a lot of stock into what you say, because it's ignorant.

But I do care that you say it, because it's not factual and borderline slanderous.

Again I ask, put me on ignore. I'll find a way to let you know when the OP sues me for slander.

If rei will take the knife back no matter what then there is no reason to lie. Crappy thing to do for sure.

I see your point calc.

I also see your point and agree its morally low to use a knife for a year and return it, but if REI will take it back with full disclosure from the d bag then their is no dishonesty.

Just a guy who has crappy morals and is a d bag.

And a company that will take a knife back under any circumstances.
