I've never been down~under, but let me tell you, if some person pulled a knife on (5) FIVE off duty cops and attempted to rob them here in the states, he would look like swiss cheese after all the smoke cleared. :p

Like I said, never been in your neck of the woods but, every off duty LEO I know{and that is alot}has off duty weapons. Most of them carry multiple weapons when they are not on the clock.

Are Aussie LEO's prohibited to carry off duty weapons?? :confused: This is most curious?
 
thats a funny thing around here ....there has been a lot of uproar over police shootings.....at one stage they were popping em off like fly's but now they seem to be going to extremes at keeping crims alive......they had a massive and I meen fu88ing massive traffic jam coz of some idiot with a shotty (shotgun) at a servo (gas station).....

but to be honest I dont think off duty cops here are allowed to carry guns without special permit......we dont have many guns in Australia at all.......thats why there is such a huge knife problem.

I'm not too sure what happens over there but here if the coppers dont like you then you're better off dead......


there has been a lot of shootings lately due to the criminal underworld....but when I say alot that meens 4 or 5 in the last year....if that gives you any indication......could have been more but who's counting.
 
the asians here all love to meet up in parks at night and have these huge gang wars with swords and machette's but not many guns.....the guy that pulled a knife on me was asian.....they're renouned for carrying knives.....us aussies used to all just have big punch ups.....but now we got all these pint sized little drug dealers swarming the community.....non of them can fight so they all have blades.....us Aussie though would have a punch up one minute then we would buy the guy a beer the next....that used to be our culture and then all the American gangster homie movies came along with the asian community....things have really changed.....not saying that we didnt have stabbings and shootings b4 all that but now it seems to be a trend....once upon a time and not so long ago if you had a knife you were considered p!ss weak.....but the asians just dont seem to understand that and none of them even bother trying to mix in with us Aussies they just hang with there own kind.....my girlfriend is vietnamese but all of her friends look at me sideways.....if I wanted to have it out with one of them I'd get stabbed.....and I aint buying no one a beer after that.

No not all Aussies are racist

We do have some gang related problems out here

The underworld war that is going on is for control of territory and up to about 25 people have now been killed

As for off duty police being armed the simple answer is NO

All firearms remain at the station and are issued at the beginning of each shift

There is a large level of firearm ownership in Oz it is just that you have to jump hoops these days for licences and registration yada yada

Funny tho all the crims have guns

the Govmnt just wants to remove firearms from law abiding folks

Seems we have our share of cretins in Melbourne also

All I can say is thank God I live on the Mornington Peninsula and never go to the city

Simple answer - NO !!!
Australia would be the most racialy tollerant nation in the world. The population here is a multicultural cross section of the world and the vast majority live together without consideration of race or religion. As this country grows and takes on more immigrants, especialy from our geographic region ( South East Asia ), there will be some conflicts due to cultural adjustment. There will always be a small redneck racist sector in any community, but this is insignificant.

The largest form of racism in Australia is between the indiginous Australians
( Aboriginals ) and the rest of the community. Their ancient culture has not been able to adapt to our Western culture in the 200 years of colonization, and this is the source of constant conflict.

I guarantee you the guy didn't care about a cigarette. It's a well worn line used to get up close to the victim, whereupon a weapon can be pulled and a robbery commenced.

nope, in fact the only racism from other australians i've seen in person off forums was from an indiginous guy (just yelling out that were all "white c**ts" and the like)... Guess every culture has there issues with another, but thats their deal not mine. If they wanna get irate over something as trivial as the color of ones skin or creed then they're the worse person and karma will bite them in the arse really hard :D.

I'm in the north and gangs are becoming prevalent, but its as much the white gangs as it is the asian...asian vs. whites i noticed a bit when I did the dumbest thing ever (street racing). got away from that, I like my car in one piece.

Thats why I always get paranoid when someone asks, I dont smoke, its blaitantly obvious! it might be illegal to carry here, but I have an extendable baton (illegal) for if I need it. I have MA training with a baton so if it saves my life its all good by me.

Thanks for bringing some clarity and facts to the table about my question regarding LEO's down~under and they're firearms. I have got a new appreciation for my right(or maybe "privilege" is a better word) to 'keep and bear arms' in this country.

I feel that a well armed society will always do alright for the most part. I worry about a society where only the criminals and a select few citizens have guns, and the police are not allowed to preform they're job unless they are on the clock... In the states many(not all)officers feel it is not just a job they do for a living, but more like a job they live to do.

Thanks for the demographics and current events. Also the histoy on the Aboriginal Indians. I saw a documentary once about how colonalization was not working with them. However, it was depicted as cruel and unusual for the Aboriginals. I am afraid that I am most ignorant as to the actual treatment they received other than this point of veiw. I would love to hear more, or be directed to a source that deals with the factual events of they're treatment. If you, or anyone else could direct me, I would be much obliged.

The main thing here I believe is that the attrosities (killing of many indiginious people) and the stolen generation (missionaries took with force a whole generation of aboriginals to teach in a proper "christian" manner) and they want the government to make an official apology (i'm assuming with a cash settlement of sometype). I dont see how that helps their people, the people that done that are all dead...

thats just some more incite into things...

This was EXACTLY the documentary's story line and claim...

.. A hired government jeep of guys(THUGS) would be dispatched to the Aboriginal village. The young Girls, would be snatched from they're mothers at the trading post or at some time when the men folk were absent, out hunting pehaps.

They would be cleaned up and forced into Christian schools set up just for these girls and would be forced to learn our Quote-un-Quote Christian Values, and be taught proper english, and not allowed to speak they're native tounge... Further, they were selected by they're physical appearence... ie, They were to look as 'white' (in all they're phyical features)as possible... This was all in the hopes that they would marry and reproduce with white men,,, the concepts purpose and government policy would eventually lead to the 'breeding out', and getting rid of all the indiginious Aboriginal Tribes!

The story took a twist when three sisters from the same family escaped from the school, and were tracked for months and many miles by multitudes of government paid hunters and trackers, but eventually two, out of the three sisters prevailed and made it back home to they're family.

Is this a fair and true depiction of the plight of these folks??

What???? I used to frequent Durham all of the time back in the 80's. The only trouble that I ever saw was a student high on cocaine, driving a moped around in circles in the middle of a parking lot. What happenned? :confused:
 
I've had knives pulled on me... and I always carry a knife on me. I would NEVER use my spyderco on a human being, for one it was a gift from my GF that was given as a tool. Second, it's a folder... I'm not highly trained in anything particularly but I can tell you that a folder is NOT designed as a weapon, they are designed to resist pressure when cutting and sometimes piercing... but not prying or twisting forces, wich are about half the work a blade does when being used destructively on human flesh. For self defense I've got steel toes and a skull like a rock... and I can climb a tree REALLY fast :)
 
I am trying to understand why Goldcutter was banned. It was apparently not for his racist post, but for an attack on Ren TDTB in a sales thread. I looked for the posts where he attacked Ren but could only come up with his earlier posts in this thread. Are these posts the reason that he was banned? Pardon my saying so, maybe I missed something in those posts, but I have seen worse posts and personal attacks which did not result in banning. Can anyone clear this up. :confused:

The thread was moved to a moderators only section..he was banned for pissing in my pool in the wrong forum. Speaking for Cougar.."why would someone want to buy a Gold Membership to sell a knife if they are attacked in the for sale forum" and if he had not been banned for that the racist post about asians would have sent him off the gang plank anyway. ..Keep smiling....
 
Goldcutter was banned because of his personal attack on Ren in the For Sale Forum. If we allowed everyone to jump in and bash members who paid to sell their items here none would join. He basically ruined the sale for Ren and he wound up pulling it from the Exchange Forum. Goldcutter exhibited poor judgement in not keeping his personal vendetta against Ren to W&C. He let it stray and that it something that is not allowed. Members should be able to sell their items without the threat of somene coming in and hijacking their thread. If anyone else had done that they too would have been banned.
