Since the only way you can make your point is to quote fragments out of context, here's what I wrote:

In my opinion, the Flipper thing is a result of business practices that create demand that outstrips availability.

A knife is 'dropped' in such a way as to make it very difficult for the average person to buy one. There's a big demand created by buzz ahead of time, there are a limited number available, loads of pictures showing off the latest acquisition. More and more people want one. Then BANG! They start showing up on auction sites and internet classifieds, and they are priced at ridiculous prices. That, in itself, excludes people.

The culprit, of course, is THE EVIL FLIPPER.

Nuts.

I understand that specifically in the case of the Forum knife that the people who did the work would want to limit opportunism, particularly since nobody seems to be profiting from this project. That's reasonable, in my view.

But, also in my view, if someone has bought something legitimately, it's his to do with as he wishes. He didn't create the climate that surrounds certain aspects of the hobby. Name calling doesn't change the laws of supply and demand.

Ok, I understand what you're trying to convey. I still don't think you quite understand what either of us was trying to say because you're not directly engaging with it, and the confusion is probably at least partly my fault.

I'm gonna go ahead and agree that we should drop it.

I'm sorry for going way off-topic on this thread.

All, perhaps I can try to explain myself a bit better, and sorry if it had not been understood from my posts.

I feel the discussion has a lot of deep emotions and considerations to be had. Not trying to stir anything up, just trying to get all of your opinion...

First, I love the new BF knife. If I keep it, there is no regret in any way shape or form. I'm sure it will bring me many years of joy and happiness. At the time of this posting, the BF knife is out of the tube next to me, and I continue to admire it 😁 Every time someone posts here or other BF knife thread, I pick it up, look at it, comparing if anything, just to feel how happy I am to own one.

However, even before I acquired this BF knife, I have sought small handful of so called grail knives. Some of these grail knives, I can't even consider trading this year's BF knife, as I'll likely get laughed at by the hardcore collectors, for suggesting a straight trade. These would be, Schrade 2OT, Washington Jacks, Harness Jacks, Day's work, initial Ancient, etc. Again, not putting any 'values' here, but I'll simply get waved off and shushed at to move along.

What I'm asking to trade for here aren't even the above mentioned. I'm talking about Northfield 77 single clips, TC #15 clips, #76's etc.

I don't have a lot to offer towards getting the grail knives I'm seeking, other than money, which I can definitely tell you I have only 'very' limited amount of 🤪. I did NOT purchase the BF knife planning to trade (and definitely not to sell it) for something 'more.' But, I don't think I have any chance at owning some of these 'lesser grails' (?) if I don't offer something significant for a trade...hence the BF knife...

Before receiving the BF knife, I was able to get a hold of the 86 2AB natural bone (which hadn't been announced when I had participated in this year's BF knife fever), which I also absolutely love. After receiving the BF knife, I started thinking, given that I `now have the 2AB natural bone (which is similar in spirit with the BF knife though less premium per se), perhaps BF knife may be my 'only' chance at trading in for my certain grail knives. So I posted this thread to ask the general Porch members' opinions.

Given the recent multiple WTB/WTT posts asking for BF knife, I perhaps got the case of FOMO, as with many things in my life 😁

I'm grateful for all your inputs. I would have asked for nothing less than your frank and honest opinions. I did wonder if this could created a hostile environment but was hoping it wouldn't.

I'll walk away with a lot of lessons to be learned here. Don't mean to act like a child but definitely as a student, appreciating all those who created and contributed to this awesome community!

Cheers to you all!

I will likely close this thread to prevent it from 'blowing up' out of proportion, but will set a time so as to allow for final thoughts of those who intensely contributed. Let's say 10PM PST. Nothing worse than having a place closed before you can complete your thoughts.

Thank you all again!

Thanks ;)... just getting caught up and would like to point something out.

Apologies to The Amazing Virginian The Amazing Virginian for putting this out here... he did make the "amazing" offer of to give his to Spark.
Was this humor? An honest error, or something that went over my head?

I personally wouldnt, it just feels against the whole idea of the forum knife. But i get it, its yours do what you want. I have been tempted to post one of my 2019 86's but it just doesnt feel right. Also if it is true that @Spark did not get offered one, i am offering mine to him now, send me a pm spark and ill get it on its way.

Thanks for the offer guys, but Traditionals aren't usually my thing. I appreciate it though, if y'all want something worthwhile to do, auction it off and donate the proceeds to KnifeRights

I think you should hold onto your forum knife. Regardless of how you feel about trades, or the moral question of selling/trading a forum knife, the fact is that the trade you are proposing, in my own humble opinion, undervalues the forum knife, which, as someone who owns a Washington Jack, is likely to hang on the same branch, and is a significantly more special knife than a 77 jack, which, although a nice knife, isn’t earth shattering by any means and will likely be run again sooner than later.
