WSK Knife ?

You're right--a straight back would be better. The idea of the raised portion was to facilitate the notching saw, but is often included in toothless versions because they then "look right" which is understandable but kind of missing the point of an outdoors tool. Actually, doing a bit of radiusing along the spine edges would do even better in terms of baton-life. The back part by the handle could be left square for fire steels.
Wow...for somebody "not seeking to influence" I sure have a lot to say. I'll shut up now. :D

We are in heat treat mode. We just heat treated this. We will get it tempered and hopefully ground by tomorrow.

So the kids enjoyed their Christmas morning of stockings, breakfast cooked by your's truly, and opening gifts. Then while the sounds of kids playing with the new Wii games and the new teather ball set sounded all around, I did what any knifemaker would do on Christmas day if they had the chance. ..... off to the saftey and security of the shop!

Today, I gave myself a gift. I set aside orders and just ground what I want to grind. This is the result. hope you enjoy it!

There are TWO grinds involved here. A scandi grind on the flat, and a convex grind on the front curve of the blade.

The scandi is simply scary sharp. I am not good a fuzz sticks. But I was able to get this.

then is was time to baton. That was a real chore because of the bare metal hanlde in my hand! Can't wait to get some real handles on this bad boy cause it blew throught the seasoned wood with no problem. Seems the most of the cutting will be on the front of the scandi grind and the back of the convex. This concerned me a bit cause the transition of the grinds is taking the heat!

but there was no problem!

As you can see, very positve results.

And the scandi grind would still shave hair off my arm like a straight razor... :) !

now got to get some handles on it !

Okay, the 1/3 height grind being a scandi makes things different! :D

Very, very cool.

Okay, I give--that's really awesome, Mark! The only thing I think I would add to it now, seeing how the grinds worked out, is a thumb depression in the spine that lines up with the curve of the convex grind so you can really leverage into that edge. Can't wait to see it all finished!

That's the BEST version of that blade type that I've ever seen. You can really do some work with that.

that looks great Mark.. definitely one of the better versions i have seen of a WSK style knife.. i like it..

Does custom micarta and mosaic pins count as cord wraped ??? Have I strayed from the original idea too much ??? Actually this is the first knife in a long time that really appeals to me, so I am keeping this one. I LOVE the scandi grind combined with the convex grind of the front of the blade!

And the in-hand shot.... The stock in NOT 3/16ths. It was supposed to be but I measured it last night and this stock is halfway between 3/16th and 1/4 inch. I will get an exact measurment on it soon.

That turned out awesome Mark, I can't blame you in the slightest for wanting to keep that one !!!

Love what ya did with the handle as well !

Will get two up for sale by the end of the week. I am out of custom micarta, so hopefully green or black canvas will look good.
