Yankee Jacks #77 2025

That's good to hear ! No amount of flushing would have remedied the action on mine. I hope that mine is just a bad one that slipped through the cracks and that we won't be hearing of too many more bad apples on this run.

I wish he would hear from more people with these and the other Tidioute version on how their action is.

if he did listen, wed have more single blades...

E Elgatodeacero ,

Somewhere, I read a discussion about pull strength. Randy Bell indicated that because GEC outsources the heat treating, it is one of the few variables they cannot control. Apparently, they monitor the first few builds, but there is not much they can to do change the springs. Small variations resulting from the heat treating process can affect pull strength quite a bit according to Randy.

If it doesn't snap I don't want it however high the perceived desirability is. And if a second-hand knife were honestly advertised as having little to no snap I'd be surprised if it had a lot of eager buyers, particularly those wanting to use it.

It's good to hear of a range of experiences so that we can judge which is the GEC most likely to please us.

If this is to do with heat treat it suggests an inconsistency, does this apply to blades too? Maybe they need to change the heat treaters?

I think SteveC SteveC was quite right to return it and I hope he gets a knife back that is not only a joy to look at but a joy to use  Agree that we need to hear other reports too.

Is there no way for the company to test spring strength during the heat treatment process ,I can't understand how they could provide such an inconsistent product and feel comfortable about it,I mean they do it for a multiple of metal parts.

Thanks Will 👍🏻

hope the rest of em come out alright, i barely have a dog in the race at this point so its just popcorn buckets for me. too much hassle to chase especially if the factory is cracking out problems.

Just heard from someone who just got both the Ebony YJ and a Green bone Barlow and he said about both pulls and W&T "Not their best"

So it seems both Jack's and Barlow's are about the same :(

have they handled the previous runs of 77s? in comparison i mean

I’ve heard of similar issues with the recent 93 run.

Lucky it’s GEC or folks might not be so willing to cut them so much slack.

SteveC SteveC I hope you’re remedied and receive a good one next mate.

Was just able to snag one from a dealer. I'm quite surprised as this is only the second or third time I've been able to do this. Hopefully the one I get doesn't have any of the issues people have been talking about. Fingers crossed! I will report back when I have the chance to handle it.

A couple of video's on Youtube where they sound like much better snap. Again a small sample size and maybe they picked the best examples of each
