Yankee Jacks #77 2025

Sunrise on Dark Mountain.

The action on this one is promising out of the tube. The pull is equally a 6-7 on both blades, but the main has very little snap from halfstop to open. It can probably be improved with flushing. I wish GEC could improve their shield cutout skills a bit.

Evidently they have a new cnc machine to cut out shield openings (might be good news for shielded stag fans). It was used to cut the script in the richlite. I would assume for the ebony as well. Are they on a learning curve or is this the limit of the machine? Time will tell I guess.

Finally received one of the new 77 run, the checkered Richlite and I am able to do a head to head comparison to the older run. Start with action, 6 to 7 pull with great snap to the older one, solid 5 with softer snap on the newer, win for the older.
Blades I would give a win to the new one, the main seems a little beefier, has a very nice swedge for a Tidioute, pen in front like it should be, can pull it out of the pocket with my left hand and open either blade with my right with no fumbling.
Apperance I would also give a slight win to the new, the lined bolsters and the very well done checkering really add to its apperance in my opinion.
All in all I like the new run, just wish I could get them, have struck out on the others so far.

I think I prefer the shape of clip blade on the old one better, but both are nice 👍

I noticed some unusual gaps in the shield pocket of another recent GEC as well (38 denim micarta)

It's encouraging to hear that the pull is much better on yours. 👍

Just weighing in on the pool of responses on pull strength for the new 77 run. I have two ebony from current run and they are both a solid 5/6. I received a rawhide that is surely in the 4 range, sadly. I compared to older runs like Augie Augie and they are mostly all 6/7. Some of the 2019 barlows were probably 5's. I understand that pull is a preference....but I don't think any knife should dip below a 5... and if GECs ability to get consistent springs (varying from 6 to 4) is a new phenomenon, that's disappointing and should be corrected. IMO the recent 14s, 15s, 48's, 47's, 22's and 93s have all had a fairly significant number of knives dipping into the 4 range. I hope this changes....

Just received my richlite 77 today. Pull on it is better than my ebony, probably a 5-6. The pen blade is a bit sluggish, but I haven't flushed it yet. Hopefully the sfo's come out with more consistency.

Id say 4-6 on the main and bit more on the pen. On the main, The first half to the half (5-6?) stop is crisper then the second half to full open (3-4)?

Def brown in full light. Shield is a touch off with black fill (South West?) on one side and slightly raised.

None of these things bother me just a bit different. Super heavy pull are not my fave anyway. In fact a lighter pull may serve me well in twilight years. This fits me very well. Love this thing.

Wip dresser refinish, and cat from earlier.

Was elated to land one of these. The ebony crew is growing.

This one is superb fit and finish - one of the best I’ve gotten by far. Reminds me of the first 86 i got that dropped me down the GEC worm hole. Excellent walk and talk and, after some serious flushing, has great snap, Pull on both blades after the flushing is about a 6.

What a beautiful knife.

Glad to hear you got a good one 👍

Mine arrived yesterday. What a gorgeous knife. Perfect fit and finish, great ebony wood. Pull on the main blade is a solid 6 to my sensibilities, right around where I like it, with great snap to all three positions. The pen blade, on the other hand, is down right horrible though, which puts a damper on the entire knife for me. No more than a 3 on the pull if I am being generous, no snap to half and no snap to open, slight snap to the close. And this is after a few hours of idly flushing and opening and closing to the point that the oil comes out clear of all debris. I considered a blade delete, but at this point I highly prefer two blades and I have a feeling this knife would see much less pocket time if it were a single blade.

Not sure what I should do as I've never had any problems with a GEC I've owned. Almost every GEC I own has had a "breaking in" period where the knife gets smoother and snappier over time but I feel like the pen blade on this one is too far gone. If it improves I don't think it would by much. I don't want to return it as this knife is pretty close to perfect for me as far as specs go. I've heard of people reaching out to GEC but I've never done that. Any suggestions?
