Actually, it was your thoughtful question in this thread a ways back that prompted me to look and research when(what era) yellow celluloid may have been released as a handle material for knives and what other practical and/or commercial uses it might have been used for. After reading quite a bit of knife references and old catalog reprints I thought it may have been the 1930's or 1940's as I stated in here in a previous post... Well, I dove into my knife stash after that and came up with 4 knives that seem to pre-date that idea..
The Henry Sears & Son knife was clearly the earliest of the group and so I submitted it for my friend Bernard Levine in his Identification forum here in BF and low and behold he was able to shed some light on this type of vintage Yellow celluloid.. Sunny, that is a great old celluloid. I think it would be very interesting to watch them make some of that wonderful patterned material. I have no idea what it would entail...
+1!. I would like to see the how the old Yellow Celluloid was produced as well!
