You can't do THAT with a ZT...

So you take the time to take photos of yourself batoning a knife through a tree, taking your dad along for the ride, and to spend hours in this thread, but you refuse to look at several one minute videos showing various ZT liner and framelocks easily disengaged from hand pressure or light taps.

I'll explain this one more time.

You see, I was going to the woods anyway; it had been over a year since my brother, father and I were able to make it at the same time.
The purpose was not to make this video; I decided on a whim the night prior to bring the ZT along to do so.

As for your YouTube evidence, I simply do not care in the slightest.
It bores me, and life is too short to bore myself...especially in an attempt to needlessly justify myself to some guy I don't know.

So, to recap:
1) Was going to the woods anyway.
2) YouTube videos about knives generally bore me.
3) I don't like being bored.
4) Don't care if you approve.

I've learned to accept that anywhere I go on this website, you, Mr. Quiet, are going to be loudly bloviating on the wrong side of every single argument, regardless of the subject matter, and there's nothing I can do about it. I have made peace with that fact.

I find that difficult to believe, given your exceptionally low participation rate on this forum (264 posts in four years? LOL Ok). Also, would you care to post up some examples of "every single argument"? Or will you admit that your attempt at hyperbole was a pathetic attempt at a personal attack?

To quote the illustrious Dr. Evil, "How about no."

Drat, foiled again. :o

And here's the rest, embedded for your convenience. Because none of us would want to be wasting more of your time.

Again, just so we're clear, these 6 are just from the first 2 pages of results, and just the ones involving light pressure or light taps. I didn't include the examples of failure from harder spinewhacks.

Oh, so they bore you now. And that's why they're not relevant.

You don't care about video evidence. That's why you made this post with photo evidence as proof of your knife's success.

You don't like being bored, and you don't feel the need to justify yourself to people you don't know. That's why you spent hours in this thread making intentionally provocative statements and jokes about frogs and Mormons.

Given your logic, seems like perfectly reasonable things for you to say and do.

Oh snap! I see a certain poster reading this. I can't wait to get referred to as "city folk" again. :p

Your sad attempts at personal attacks are beginning to bore me as well.
Try to be original at least.
Or be civil...one or the other.

Some people REALLY don't understand the point of this thread. But it was fun watching all the panties getting all twisted up.

To bring it back to the topic, I've owned exactly three ZTs (a 0770CF, 0801, and a 0450), and they've all been wonderful. My problem with what you've been saying is that it seems like you've set a bar for "valid" criticism of ZT that I suspect is higher than the bar you've set for brands that you already dislike. That's what I meant by the reference to Gerber. (Of course, I'm making several assumptions here--correct me if I'm wrong on any of them.)

"Mr. Owl, how many spine whacks does it take to get to the center of a ZT folder?"

"Let's find out... Ah-One, A-two-hoo, Thuh-ree... {CRUNCH} ... Thuh-ree."

Hahaha. I remember those commercials. Well done. :D

I've set no such bar. Now then, how about some proof of your previous comment? Where are all of these arguments that I've participated in on "the wrong side" (according to you)? Or would you care to apologize for your attempt at a personal attack? After all, what does "the wrong side" mean if not "My side"?

I remember the good old days.
Back at one point, this thread was about a knife...

I don't understand. Why do you often accuse people of trolling if you often troll yourself?

That's a good point! Here is a pic of mine:

This was after I'd used it in the yard that day. I wiped it down, it looked as good as new.

Later after that pic, it was lanyard time. You get a lanyard! YOU get a lanyard! EVERYBODY GETS A LANYARD!!!

I don't really care for ZT knives. I don't like flippers or framelocks a whole lot. I'm not even that big on folders these days but I think it's cool that this knife was able to cut a tree down. I don't think that every folder or every ZT may be able to do the same but it's cool to know that it is a possibility.

Stonewash is good for that.
My Umnumzaan keeps looking good despite getting plenty of use.
Small scratches just blend in.

I don't mind a knife that looks well-used, but it's also nice to have some that keep looking newish despite use.

According to current wisdom, you can't fell a tree with a folding knife, and a Zero Tolerance would certainly explode, right?

Let's find out. :)

So yeah, that was weird...I still have all my fingers, and the knife didn't explode.
It's almost like the internet experts got it all wrong yet again. ;)

Clearly, this thread started out focused on a knife.

Of course, the most harrowing part was the night-time walk out with all those dangerous toads...you can see the one holding me in place with its might pressed against my boot!
I'm surprised we managed to get out alive. ;)

But if a tree or two extra falls, I plead the "Beaver defense."
In a recent article regarding beaver activity on Peche Island, a biologist was stating how any trunk too large for the beavers to move ends up decomposing and helping the forest with nutrients returning to the ground.

Hence, I am good for the environment in the same way as the noble beaver, that most Canadian of animals. ;)

Probably safer than toads for a snack. :)
The huge numbers of toads out where I was got my interest up as to their edibility.
Common consensus seems to be that it's best not to try eating them.

City folks!

Truth be told, when I saw this thread and saw how happy go lucky we were at page one, I pressed "last page" and ah, here we are again, same old battle grounds. ;)

This thread inspired me to do my first battoning. :D:eek::D:eek::p:cool:

Didn't know what to expect and thus used my cheapest, the $1.50 Walmart folder. Seriously 1.5 in the camping isle next to the cast iron pans.
I'm also a German engineer with 2 masters degrees so you can trust me and this is the Internetz.

The back lock folder had lots of blade play to begin with. The blade is chisel ground, about one index finger long and 70 percent serrated. The tip wiggled 1cm before I started. I had sharpened it to arm hair shaving.

I battoned that piece of mystery s... through 5cm of a dried California oak branch. There was no stick available so I used a rock.

The thumbstud was hit once and bend out of its hole but was easy to pop back.
The spine was scratched badly. And now the blade wiggles 1.5cm and sometimes catches the handle when closing.
The edge is fine and not one serration is bend. It still shaves (the unserrated portion)
Not bad for $1.50

The force on the lock while battoning is minimal as long as you don't press down the handle while you hit the tip. I only hit the blade where it was above the branch and not in front or behind. It's a lame test for a lock. The test would have been the same even without any handle. Place the blade and hammer it through. Pulling it out in order to replace it is the only time the lock would be experiencing any real force.

If I would have used an SAK and a stick I doubt it would have been any different from what the OP achieved.

Do I think locks are overrated? Nope. Still like them strong. Just saying that a bit of battoning the way I did it isn't really testing the lock. Pushing on the handle and hitting the tip to make the edge travel through would be much more taxing.

I don't understand. Why do you often accuse people of trolling if you often troll yourself?

It's ok friend. If you try a little harder, I firmly believe even YOU can see the insignificance if this thread in the overall scheme of things. Unless of course you take yourself too seriously....in which case you'll continue arguing a point ad nauseum to a bunch of people who truly don't care.

I don't really care for ZT knives. I don't like flippers or framelocks a whole lot.

The funny thing is that I generally don't like flippers much either. :)
On this knife though, it just seems to work.
Goes to show that the overall knife is more important than any one feature...even ones we generally don't like.
