You could only carry one knife for a year.....

As long as you can carry it, a fixed blade is always better than a folding knife, that's why it would be crazy to chose a folder over a fixed blade if you could only have one knife. You could use a folding knife to cut stuff and it would probably never fail, but a fixed blade is just a better tool. I will take the better tool any day.

I can carry what I want at my work, since I own the business. I opt to carry a folder over a fixed blade for several reasons. A folder clipped onto my work clothes is more accessable than a fixed blade that may be sliding around. I work on a lobster boat and a sheathed knife inside of my bib oilskins is inaccessable and outside it catches on everything around me. It is easier and safer on a pitching deck to close a folder and clip it to my bib than to try to get a sharp pointed knife into a sheath with cold hands on a moving platform. It takes a fraction of a second more to access and open a folding knife than it does to get a good grip on a fixed blade's handle with cold hands and stiff gloves on and get it out of the sheath...that fraction of a second is negligable in an emergency.

In the above situations a fixed blade isn't the "better tool" and it is hardly "crazy" to select an "already broken" knife.

It would have to be the Victorinox Tinker for me, too. As much as I love my Paramilitary 2, the Tinker with its multiple tools still beats it for overall practical utility. Only the Super Tinker can really challenge it. Problem is that the Super Tinker is too chunky for EDC.

I've carried a MiniGrip and a Vic Ambassador for years. If I had to give up one, I'm not sure which!

I'm actually trying to get myself to go the other way and give my Speedform II and RAM some pocket time. The MiniGrip is hard to beat though - never know its there until I need it, and out/open/use/close/put away so fast the sheeple don't have time to get scared.

This knife scratches a very strange itch I wasn't aware that I had.

My one year knife would be my ZT0301. I think.
