You ever really wanted to like a knife but couldent?

Spyderco native, great knife just can't warm up to it.

I love my lim. edition Native, but despised the blue handle on the Native 3. I have an Izula that I won't get rid of as it has #26 on it, but the handle does not do it for me at all so I've only carried it a couple of times. Purchased a Emerson Mini-Commander and thought it was very underfinished and rough. I held the Manix in store, thought it was too big, then regretted it when discontinued. Purchased another on here- only to have it disappear from the box- I guess fate does not want me to have one.

The Benchmade 710 . . . I think the order that I have bought my benchmades has to do with me not digging this one. First I get the stout tank that is the HK14205 that is an awesome Snody design and very big axis lock. . . then I get the Switchback with the beautiful aircraft aluminum . . . after that I buy the elegant Ares with the purple and black handle and the sweet blade shape . . .

my fourth benchmade is the 710, and boy does it look vanilla as hell compared to those first three. I don't like the recurve, and the blade shape in general doesn't excite me. The handle is also rather plain. There isn't anything really wrong with it, it just doesn't bring the "cool" the way the others do . . . for me, anyway.

I REALLY wanted to carry my ZT 301 around as I absolutely loved it! Very good fit and finish, perfect lockup, beefy pivot with bolt tightener, hinderer lockbar stabilizer, awesome 4 way clip, unfortunately it was just to large for me to comfortably carry around. I think it was more the "height" of it rather than the length. It just had to big of a footprint. I really did love it though and if I ever have another need for another large overbuilt folder I'd buy another in a heart beat. At this point I'd rather carry a fixed blade if I need a knife that big though.

No, I've had knives that didn't feel right in my pockets when clipped though. I also had a knife with G-10 that was too slippery. I can usually tell how a knife will feel in the hand by looking at it and holding similar handles. I usually stay away from knives that seem 'IFey'. As in the dozier reverse tanto. That blade looks great, but that handle is just wierd.

Gerber 06 auto looked like a heavy duty user but the handles were too smooth (not enough grip) sluggish upon opening and a cheesy overall feel. I thought about this knife for a long time and couldn't wait to get my hands on it, when I finally got it I was very disappointed. It's OK though because I gave it to my buddy as a gift and he loves it.

I really wanted to like my Benchmade 707 Sequel. It was the perfect size and shape for EDC, but that damn thumbstud was placed too close to the handle for comfortable opening.

Benchmade Rift

Benchmade 940

Spyderco native 2

Spyderco Gayle Bradley [weight was a bit too much for me]

Strider's folders in general [still wanna try one out, but holding them in hand I don't feel the value is quite there with the price tag, brand new]

Recently sold Military, just didn't feel good in my hand. New Sage 2 is a whole different story, really a great knife (for me).

CS CV Trailmaster, handle too skinny, felt like it might twist off the tang.

I don't know if I have the perfect hands or the perfect size knives I keep holding NEVER had a problem with any knife except one......Benchmade 940. I held it....yeah not for me. Too small of a knife. But now I've only held maybe 50 knives. Usually I like the bigger model benchmades, however I'm looking into a ZT300 but it just seems too heavy. Although I must admit I don't like Spydercos AT ALL, not digging the hole. Like a thumbstud.

My RC-6 (ESEE-6?).

I love the overall dimensions of the knife, and the blade style is damn near perfect for my uses... but in hand I just don't feel it. The handle is very blocky and uncomfortable to me, and I dislike the finger choil. I'd rather have the cutting edge there instead of the choil. It'd still be plenty close to the handle for fine work, and it would either free up some space in the knives overall length, or add a bit of cutting edge. A win win for me.

That said, it's still probably the best knife I own in terms of overall strength and design. I just don't like the way it feels in hand. Ah well, can't like 'em all.

Spyderco Paramilitary and Busse Active Duty - no complaint about them but neither did anything for me.

Small Sebenza for me, too. It's nice, but I never thought it was "$330 nice." The first time I handled it, it reminded me of a Kershaw Ken Onion Vapor, also a nice knife, but around $25.

I still have it, and I'm glad I bought the holy grail of pocket folders...but I never really warmed to it.

forgot about BM RIFT , really nice knife I wanted to like it but it just wont work for me , sold it .:grumpy:

Endura Wave. The first few times it opened just fine. Then it opened for 60% and I had to flick it. Tried it a few more times, at some point it opened for maybe 40%. I wanted to use my thumb to open it and almost got my thumb on the edge (it wasn’t that close in retrospect, but still…). I decided that waved knives are not for me.

Although I must admit I don't like Spydercos AT ALL, not digging the hole. Like a thumbstud.

That's how I felt for a long time. Didn't like the look of the hole, didn't like the way it changed the shape of the blade. Also seemed unnecessarily different since thumbstuds work so well (for me, anyway). The only Spyderco that didn't make me gag was the Native, but the blade was longer than I wanted to carry. The Delica I got cheap recently has sorta changed my opinion of the opening hole. It hasn't bumped out my Mini Grip, though. I keep that on my right side and the Delica on my left. The opening hole seems suited to my clumsy left hand.

I have a Schrade Bear Paw (older one, before Schrade became whatever they are now) that doesn't really do a thing for me. Maybe it's 'cause I don't hunt, or I don't have memories of my grandfather carrying a Buck 110, or maybe it's just a "guy" knife (whatever that may be), I don't know.

For me it's the Sebenza too, I own one and have carried it on and off for the last year but i can't warm up to it. I keep trying to really like it but so far it hasn't happened, for now it is just okay in my eyes.

Has there been a knife that you really wanted to like but when you finally got to handle it you just couldent make yourself like it for whatever reason?

Yes and some I've really wanted to hate but couldn't also. There have also been some I thought were nothing to write home about yet once they were in my hand I changed my mind.

There are two kinds of beauty really, the kind you see with your eyes and the kind you feel with your hands. Its been said that a woman is not a keeper until she passes the 'hug test'. Many men have found a woman they thought they really wanted due to the initial visual inspection but in the end the hug test just didn't cut it. I've found the same can be said about knives. Once the hand approves of the lines, the curves and how she feels giving it that thumbs up anything the eye thought it knew is shoved aside or at least thats been the case for me. A knife so so to the eye can be greatly loved as a true beauty in use or in the hands.

It goes both ways though because when the hands disapprove it doesn't matter how much the eyes keep trying to tell ya its great its great its great! If its not so great physically to the hand its not really so great after all usually. I usually go with hand. :D

+1 on Griptilian blade shape. Useless is an understatement. Tried it for work EDC, gave it away.

semi+1 on Paramilitary. Hated the blade/handle ratio at first. Still find it horribly un-ergonomic, contrary to some reports. But I LOVE how the thing cuts. It makes nearly anything seem like butter.

Here's my current hangup: Beautifully designed small fixed blades with horribly heavy handles and poor balance. e.g., some small Busses (AD, Hairy Carry) and some Doziers. Seriously, if you're making a $200-400 knife, why can't you taper the tang??
