You ever really wanted to like a knife but couldent?

+1 on Griptilian blade shape. Useless is an understatement. Tried it for work EDC, gave it away.

Just curious, but what about the Griptilians' blade shape is useless? If comparing the Paramilitary and the BM556 the blades look almost exact, except I would say that the paramilitary has more of traditional drop point. Besides being .4" larger, I really don't see a difference. Not saying you're wrong, just asking why you think that.

Carter knives have tapered tangs.;)

I coulda/shoulda been more specific. I had the sheepsfoot model, partially serrated. You know, the one that was used in early ads to look like an alligator with the serrations being teeth, the opening hole being the eye, etc. http://www.freewebs.com/cutlerylover/Griptilian proto blade.JPG
It just didn't work. Not nearly pointy enough for me. Too much belly to be a sheepsfoot, not enough belly to use. I have no experience w/ the clip point blade w/ thumbstuds.

You talkin' Murray Carter, or someone else?

+ 2 on that. I sold both of mine. They feel big, hollow and chintzy for the blade size. Ever try and deploy a Griptilian w/o the pocket clip? The round, smooth butt of the handle makes it impossible. Pops the handle out of my hand very time. :thumbdn:

I agree about the sheepsfoot, I prefer wharncliffe profiles, and the sheepsfoot of the BM 555 does seem a little useless. A knuckle dragger if you're trying to use the belly, and awkward positioning if you're just trying to use the point.

Yeah, Murray Carter. I'd say I'm a fanboy of his, but it's just because he makes a damned good product.

It'd be hard to find a knife marker as dedicated as him.

Yeah the delica 4. The blade shape did not do much for me, I'm not a huge fan of back locks and I hated the saber grind. Dont get me wrong I still thought it was a quality knife and it did go through philmont with me because it is certainly more carriable than the minigrip in a backpacking situation, but for some reason the minigrip always beat it out for edc and general camping stuff. I wish I could find the knife so I could sell it to someone in my troop who will appreciated more than I did.

I originally got my Grip as an EDC for a trip I was taking. It was just about the worst choice I could have made. Because it lacks a real point, you can't easily open a bag of chips with it, never mind do something serious. On that trip, I needed to open food a lot more often than cut rope. It was very frustrating. My girlfriend even made some comment at the time "I thought you knew about knives" or something. How I wish I had taken a swiss army knife instead!

I really wanted to like the Kershaw Scallion. Cutting wise it was fine but there are a few things that didn't work for me - I don't like assisted opening knives (fine for opening - pain for closing) the liner lock was too hidden or small for fast access and I have come to prefer non-metallic scales.

Griptilian - carried for a while but felt cheap compared to others, so ended up selling it.

BM 710 - owned one, sold it. bought another, sold it again. we never "clicked", but damn if I didn't try to make that relationship work. it never quite fit my hand right.

otoh I really like the Military and find it fits my hand perfect, but don't EDC it.

SMF...i felt it was over priced and carried horribly...i also hate the stupid spanner type pivot...i really liked the design and look of it, and wanted to like it more than i did

Two sebenzas, and both sold...i liked my first one, regretted getting rid of it, second one was a nightmare and i prolly wont buy another

After that nightmare I won't buy another and it wasn't my Sebenza.

Price to performance ratio is very important to me!

Benchmade 530. Just can't get a comfortable grip with that sharp uber plastic handle. Also, everything Victorinox. REALLY want to like them but just don't. User wise, not collectible wise.

Sebenza, nice knife, prefer a handle thats more ergonomic.

What is sad is when you dislike a knife so much that it sours the taste of the particular company altogether to ya , which is what happened to me and , I'll leave it at that.

I really wanted to like the cqc-14. The wave feature killed it for me. It would open fully sometimes and partially most of the time. I'd rather open it all of the time with my thumb.

Griptilian. I love the handle, the weight and the axis lock. Unfortunately, the blade shape is useless and the serrations poorly designed. It s too bad, because it would otherwise make a great edc.

I completely agree with this. I love the grip, the lock is awesome. The whole thing feels so solid, would be an amazing EDC. But the grind on the blade, its not an amazing slicer, something I would rather have in an EDC than robustness. I'd like to believe that the folks at benchmade know how to sharpen. I think the reason Spyderco's tend to come sharper, is the quality of the grind, especially the FFG knives.

I've owned two griptillians and broken both of them, both the blade styles sheepsfoot and drop point.

I chipped about an 1 1/2 centimeter long chunk out of one blade in the woods and snapped of the first 1/2 inch of the drop point, neither design seemed to me that they sliced very well, and lastly the AXIS lock just flat out doesnt work for me, gets stuck gritty and on one of the knives would get stuck in the open position and id literally have to use a gerber to pry it to the unlocked position. They way they were talked about here i thought they were the perfect midlle of the road knife but my experience with them was bad enough that i havent bought a production folder (other than a sebeneza and a boker trance which i resold) in about 2 years. With the ZT 550 coming out though i may change my ways.

Benchmade 530. Bought it as my first "good quality" knife after owning just SAK's. It just doesn't work for me. I'll probably end up selling it just cause it doesn't get used.
