You REALLY, REALLY need to see this! (A sincere apology)

When I was 14, we didn't have internet forums. And we had to carve our own D&D dice out of tyrannosaurus bones.

I'm just glad the OP isn't going to arrest me for EDC'ing a BK-9.

Live and learn little brother. However, bear in mind that there are many people - especially in the gun and knife community - that love to stretch the truth. About the 450 yard shot they made on a deer with a 30-30, about their military service, about the women they have been with, the motorcycle they rode on the street at 190mph.... I don't know why they feel the need to tell stories, but they do.

The important thing to remember, is that even though I smile and talk to them for a while, the whole time it is so obvious they are full of shit. One of the toughest lessons about growing up, is learning to have self confidence and respect for yourself. Once you have that, you will never feel a need to change yourself to fit into a group.

“Once we believe in ourselves, we can risk curiosity, wonder, spontaneous delight, or any experience that reveals the human spirit.” ~ EE Cummings

Once you start plowing your furrows crooked it is hard to get them straight again.

I also wanted to be legally able to enter contests/GAW's. I mean, who don't like to win stuff?

so, about that... generally speaking you know that anything you've won under false pretenses could have exposed people to serious legal liability? mmm. all it would take is for one of your legal guardians to throw a hissy fit, and bad trouble.

i haven't checked, but if you DID win anything, you might want to ponder getting rid of it.

as for future contests and their prizes, if they involve items that you cannot legally posses/etc/etc, i wouldn't bother. speaking as a forum mod here. it's also just not fair to the others.

speaking as me, i'm sorely disappointed. glad you finally fessed up, but still. after the week i've had, and finally coming home early even, to find this kind of stuff. shakes head.

exhausted. going to bed. carry on.

(and it's grammAR and syntax, grammer is the old lady, yo, i mean, at least 99% of modern browsers have spelling check turn on by default. oiy ;D)

That does it. I'm going to start marking up everyone's posts with my red ink pen and issuing grammar infractions.

And stay off my lawn too.

Well I thought long and hard about weather or not I should weight in on this thread.

I think what you did is really sad, you just didn't tell a small lie about your age you made a fake you to 'fit in' and get free stuff which I think is BS.

Ive seen it before on forums where people will say they are a cop or armed forces and milk it for free stuff...etc.

I think you should lose your beckerhead number, I think anything you won, or was given to you should be returned or given away, and then you should be allowed to re-earn you beckerhead number.

you had a lawn, but someone planted kudzu on it while you were gone. probably Ethan.

Thanks to everyone for all the respectful replies.

As to winning anything, the only thing I've won was a set of BK-11 scales, and I can legally own those. They were given to thrillbilly, anywho.

And, you guys are completely correct. Making up an alter-ego just to win stuff is pure idiocy and I knew from the start that I shouldn't be doing it.

Thanks again guys.

Good idea....re-earn our trust with a new number and name....

I BH of note, here.

Ya'll Beckerheads tell me how you want to proceed, I'm good with either.

There is some merit to what you say, and I am not sure that I completely disagree with you, but I would like to submit the following:

This young man recognized his error and brought it forth and laid his mistake out for judgement and comment. He did this this without being caught, as far as I know. He did not commit a crime per se, except that of a moral error. And isn't the forgiving factor of a moral fail is admission and repentance? He freely admitted his error. He could have vanished and reappeared and started again....but instead chose the nobler path of confession and acceptance of punishment/reprisal. That is the mark of manhood. At 14 that is remarkable, and to be respected. As a Scoutmaster, and an Eagle Scout, I can say that this is a lesson learned through self recrimination and guilt... the best kind of learning experience. Govern by your morals, and the gift therefrom; a conscience for him to live by. If he had been challenged and accepted blame, and asked forgiveness, then by all means, punishment would be in order. But self admission, and acceptance to the outcome is the mark of a man...what more do you expect from a boy wanting to be a man.... My 0.02

And to those that knew already and said nothing... My hat is off to you, sirs.... You know how to lead boys to men... Think of leadership in the BSA...We need your kind. Some of you already are..

I've already given my opinion on this, so I won't be wishy-washy and change it, but I do think that Requirement #1 of becoming a Beckerhead should be addressed. I suppose it's all how one interprets this, but in the sign-up thread it states this:

"You must be a member in good standing with Bladeforums. Any instance of misconduct on these forums, will jeapordize your membership and all privileges..."

Could willfull misrepresentation be construed as misconduct? Perhaps. Should his BH# be taken away? If the masses feel his actions equal misconduct, then yes. I personally feel that because he has publicly tried to make amends, he should keep it. Besides, his number is sort of tainted now anyway...and that may well be punishment enough.

Just my .02

The fact that you came clean is a great deal not with the forum but with your self. A boy growing and learning to man up. Now in real life for every poor choice a person makes there is a consequence and when you made your choice to come clean you knew what could happen which is also to be admired.keep your head up and be proud of the decision you made and learn from your mistake and mistakes other people make so you wont have to go through this again.

Hmmmm. It's like that line from Pulp Fiction (you'll be able to watch rated R movies when you're older :D )
"A man is instantly absolved from all fault as soon as he admits wrong doing" Or something like that........

Like I said for every poor choice people make there is consequence. I think the kid is willing to take the consequence that's why he came clean.

I see what you are say and I agree with most all of it. I just personally feel that it's more then fair to take away the things he 'earned' if you want to call it that as he lied to us about who he is, and give him a second chance to re-earn things such as his number you know.

Sometimes just coming clean is not enough and some repair needs to take place, I think that repair should be him stepping back and working to re-earn the trust of a community that he clearly cares about.

So yeah I guess my final thoughts on the subject would be that I think he should voluntarily give up his beckerhead number and anything he earned or was give because he was a beckerhead such as patches...etc. and then we should let him earn all those things back as himself and not a made up person. Also I don't want to force him to do those things, I think he should just do it under his own free will to continue on the path of turning over a new leaf.
