Young knife collectors/users - deux

I mean.... Just open it by pushing the blade the whole way open with your thumb in the hole the whole time. You don't have to flick open a knife to open it..... Although cjz is right, it will smooth out.

No, you're right. I just like being able to flick it open quickly without flicking my wrist.

It'll get there, believe me. Frn spydercos are wondrous. My native is as solid as the day I got it (and I have abused it) but now falls when I depress the lock it's so smooth.

You guys taking your lady friends out today?

Lady friends? You mean my knives? Yes, actually, I shall take one of them to work today.

What is the purpose of lanyards on knives? I've never understood it.

They look nice, can make a knife easier to get out of the pocket, and on some smaller knives, ALLHSS ladybug salt up there for instance, it gives you something to fill out your hand. :)

Those + with large fixed blades, a lanyard loop around your hand can keep the knife from flying off into the distance when you chop with it.

Plus they look cool...;)

All good examples, and true on the ladybug. I can slip my pinky in and let it hang, then just retrieve it. It will be useful when fishing.

But the real reason for that lanyard is to attach it to my keys.

I got my two sons (now 13 and 14) a collection started a few years back and have been keeping it going at Christmas and

So far, they each have a favorite color (one likes red and the other likes Blue), so I've tried to find knives that come in multiple colors (every now and then we mix it up and change colors).

Got them the Blue/Red Kershaw Skylines, and a set of Scallions (also got them each a Victorinox SAK - one in Blue and the other in Red). They even branched out and one wanted a Buck Parallex while the other wanted a Byrd Robin.

I picked up a Blue Delica and a Black one and then swapped the scales from a Delica trainer to the Black one to come up with this (I usually get one like theirs and mine are typically Orange):

I just recently got them their first outdoorsy/bushcrafty fixed blades and we're headed out this weekend to build a fire and cook on it with a tri-pod/hanger and build a shelter.

Got my 13 year old a Mora Bushcraft (he wanted Orange this time) and my 14 year old a Condor Kephart (and picked up a Becker BK16 while I was ordering):

Enjoy the 566, SpringAssisted! Are you going to de-assist it, or are you going to stay true to your user name? ;)

I finished my first Kydex sheath. No press; just heating it in a propane torch and hand molding. It has some bumps and lumps, but it is good enough for me. The retention is great--the finger guard is held by the Kydex.

Nice job! I was thinking about trying to do some kydex sheaths.

I just tried my hand at de-assisting on my kershaw tone. It was really simple and it makes the knife 10x better.

Hey guys, figured I'd jump on too. Coleton-18 and just got bit by the bug so I don't have much.. Yet ;)
Got a BM Grip with some custom g10 scales on the way, a Spyderco Byrd and tenacious, and a Bradley Alias 2 on the way. Hopefully a 942 very soon too.
Pics as soon as I get everything.
