Young knife collectors/users - deux

My grail at the moment is a ZT0550 (Gen. 2) but I probably won't be getting one for a while. Odds are I'm gonna be using my money to get some bling for my ZT0566 :D

Just go with the 0550. You'll appreciate it way more. I had KnottyEagle's 0551 for a while, awesome knife.

Yeah, I will if I get enough money for one for my birthday, but before then I'll probably get my first custom scale and LBS for my 0566 since it is my favorite knife so far  I am drooling over one of Rival's scales but sadly his books are closed till April. I guess it gives me time to save up :D

Guess I should have mentioned my grails. One of them is actually going to to be in my possession by the end of the week, more info on that when I have the knife. :D

Others include a Kershaw Tilt, Benchmade Mini Skirmish, Busse TGLB, TAD Dauntless and the ZT 0454.

A few of my grails would be
Realistic Grails:
Spyderco Paramilitary 2
ZT 0550

Grails:
Small 21 Sebenza
Strider PT
Busse Game Warden
Protech TR3 Manual

SBK got it right :D Sorry, was a lil' "mellowed" that evening ... now I'll leave this thread to you youngsters again ... keep it up, I really enjoy reading this ... makes me believe that not everything is lost with the younger generation ;)
Sounds like you haven't observed the inside of a public school in awhile.

I'm going to reprofile my 0551 to 18° per side.

Anybody here in the Tri-State area? ECCKS is this weekend!

The last time I saw the inside of a public school was when i got my degree about 18 years ago, so you got that right ;)

( It was when I was 18 years old and got my "Abitur". To be able to compare it to US degrees see Wikipedia.)

And to understand why I am so wary about our German kids see our results in the PISA studies ;)

^^^^Very cool, man! I've never held a custom, how is the quality compared to a factory knives like Beckers and ESEE's? How does it compare to Beckers & ESEE's in price to performance ratio?

Thanks!

Well, frankly, the quality is better overall. The scales are flush, the grinds are even, the sheath is better, etc. However:

How does it compare to Beckers & ESEE's in price to performance ratio?

I can't honestly say. The custom cost $275; the BK17 (which is the only Becker in that size range that I own) cost $75 shipped. So the Becker was $200 less.

I don't think that the BK17 is going to give up the ghost anytime soon. So price to cutting power wise, Becker all the way.

If you feel the need for something not offered by a production knife (see the top of my review) a custom is your only choice. As I mentioned above, the F&F is better, the materials are better, the design is exactly what I asked for, and I can look at a picture of the guy that made it and email him directly. Those things are what adds the $200 to the price.

My grail is a BUSSE Team Gemini
A realistic grail is a ZT 300 Blackwash or a GEC something.

You should definitely get a GEC. I had a 15 single spear wearing smooth ivory covers, it was a fantastic knife. I traded it to Kirby though. He then also got a 66 Calf Roper and a Northwoods (GEC made) 44 Madison Barlow, just ask him how much he loves them. :D

Also, I have an 85 tear drop jack in ebony on the way!
