Young Knife collectors/users?

17 checking in here! I'll try to post some pics of the collection later, but first, I have a question! How do some of you 13,14,15 year olds afford Benchmades, Spydercos, ZTs, etc? Whatever you're doing, I need to try it! I'm sure its different for some, especially if you have a parent into knives. My dad is not a knife guy. (Working on it though!) Either way, certainly cool to see others my age into knives.

I pet sit. Dogs, cats, birds, plants, rodents, etc. I charge $15 to $20 an hour, and I can make as much as $50/day over the busiest times. Over Christmas, I made upwards of $600. My parents can't tell a Gerber from a Sebenza except for saying that the Sebbie is more expensive.

What do you use to sharpen that swamp rat?

HaHa. Good question. I wish I had a good answer! I free-hand with Lansky hones, because I am too cheep to get a better sharpening system (while I can somehow afford a Sebenza...)

I need to try sharpening on my belt sander, as it is supposed to work well. I just don't want to mess up an expensive knife. I have a worksharp in my future...

I'm not 100% but we are in the “screw your rights, the constitution is old" states. So I don't think anything chanfes. You can bring the 9 but I don't think you can carry it.

Hey!

Honestly, I don't know where the money comes from. I don't have a job during the school year, I try to put all my energy into my academics. That, and collecting knives. :o

All I know is that it's a crippling addiction that leaves me with an empty wallet and more knives than I know what to do with haha.

BTW, I'm 15, names Chris. Nice to meet you

I just try to save up money from work most of the time, and birthday/holiday stuff sometimes. And same thing with my dad but I think he is starting to get into knives. I got him a Kabar Dozier Folder for Christmas and he carries it all the time

I would love to get one of those, but I don't have the cash. I think I might just stay with my Izula though. It's small but it's handled fine while camping. I want a new fixed blade but t the same time i cant decide on one. So ill probably hold off. I can't wait fr the kershaw CQC-6K though.

Also, I'm not sure if its different through different states but the fixed blade length here is 4in I think, does it change if your camping or anything, like would it be okay to take something like a BK9 (for example) to go camping?

As you probably know, if you're tight on cash but want a larger knife, Moras are the answer.

I, too, can't wait for the new Kershaws. I see a Nura 3.0, BW Cryo, CQC-6K, Thistle, Ember, and Ruby 4040 (if I can get one) in my future.

And I think that using a BK9 in the middle of a crowded camp ground is different than in a more secluded area. I wouldn't use more than a BK2 in the first scenario, in the second, sure, why not a 9? Discretion is the better part of valor.

My dad has a friend that is a fireman, maybe I can ask him for a more detailed answer on legality. Good thought!

Thanks SBK, and you're right about the 9 In a crowded camp ground. :)

Yeah it kinda sucks. I'd be afraid if I got pulled over on the way to go camping and have that in the back. Especially up here

I use DMT stones, red and tan. then i use a leather strop with black compound on one side and green on the fine side. What do you think about the Sebenza? I've held one, but never used one.

It's fun to have, but I'd be terrified to really "use" it. So really, for me, it's just a chunk of pretty steel and Ti that I can fondle. Still, I love having it and using it for light tasks on special ocasions.

I save money and help my parents with stuff (such as babysitting my nephew). I don't get an allowance or payed for specific things but my parents are usually pretty cool about helping me out if there is something I want to get. After i get the izula i will probably save for a while because there is a Busse TLGB, small seb, and a zt 0561 calling my name. Lol :D

Remember. Sebenza means work. And thats what I do with mine. I have cleaned fish and squirrels. And I have also used them to cut my steaks. A sebenza is more fun to have if you use it. I actually had the cf sebenza fall off of the tailgate of my truck and ran it over. Other than a few scratches nothing happened to it. Go out and get it dirty😄.

16 here, I was a commercial cleaner for an office building, 5 days a week. I recently quit that job to do an electricians apprenticeship.

It's refreshing seeing Sebenzas that have been used, well done sir.

Is that a concert? I love going to concerts. I saw Hoodie Allen a few months ago and I'm seeing the Arctic Monkeys in February :)

It was the opening ceremony to PBR which stands for Professional Bull Riding. It was awesome!
