Here is a BK17 I just finnished modding. It has been stripped and had a patina added. I also made custom maple scales for it.
The patina was done using apple cider vinegar, brown mustard, and lemon juice.
The scales came from giant log rounds from trees that used to grow in our city parks. I start with axes and hatchets, and then work up to knives. The final maple boards are now made using a table saw. After that, I screwed them on and rounded/shaped them with a belt sander. I finished them at 600 grit and then applied an old-fashioned 3-in-1 oil finish.
