Your Carrying Knife

When in Washington, DC, with its 3" limit, I carry my BF Native. At all other times, I carry either my StarMate or my 440V Military, usually the StarMate. When I am going places where a knife might be alarming to folks, I tend toward the BF Native as the color and size make it less scary to those unfamiliar with knives.

My Carrying Knife, as with the rest of the gang, I carry, daily, about 7 knives on my person, and a couple larger ones in my work satchel or coat. A couple are for show and tell and the rest all have real purposes, honest!

The main stay are as follows;

Left front pocket, SAK Executive, always carry that!
also in that pocket, a Moki mid-lock with ivory micarta scales, 2 1/2" blade very nice knife

Right front pocket, clipped to the pocket, Kershaw Random Task, within the pocket one of the William Henry Lancets, rotate the group.

Back right pocket, SAK Cowboy locking folder, food knife, only food!

Back left pocket, still nothing there, have to ask myself why I don't carry a knife there?

On the belt, right side, today was the David Boye Persona, but the Chris Reeve knives take their turn, as do the following, just depends on how I feel when I get up, Rob Simonich Talonite Carnivore, William Henry Rainbow Spearpoint, Imada High Hollow butterfly.

I try to give equal time to those knives but you can only carry so many!

Cool topic.

You guys seem to understand the better to have more tools than not enough rule. I carry a MT Combat Talon II in a cordura belt sheath + a Victorinox Cybertool that always seems to have just the right tool/driver/torx for the job + a Stiff Kiss in an ankle rig + a Kestral auto sometimes.

I usually carry my .45 Austrian OTF as well in a Kydex IWB holster when not at work. I can say that I get the most usage out of the CT II.

Benchmade Stryker, partially serrated, BT2 coated, never leave home without it.

Glad I'm not the only bali carrier to reply (being fortunate enough to live were i can carry them).

Used to be an Leatherman PST and Endura, but i wanted to switch to partial rather than full serations.

Now i carry the Leatherman in a bag, if i have one (usually), unless I now I'll either need it(pocket) or won't (stays at home).

Leatherman micra on the key chain, or pocket if I'm leaving the keys.

Jaguar plain edge bali in pocket if I'm home, belt sheath if i'm out and about. Soon to be replaced by my pending BM 42 (cutom concealex by Matt Draper).

If social situation mandates I leave the bali (ie- i know i'll be around people it will scare, or in places like concerts were if there is a screw up and the cops start arresting everyone, I won't have more to hassle with {I like cops, but Portland's situation is weird right now, and guys with long hair and beards are feared enough as is. Not cop bashing}). In those cases I switch to a CRKT small Point Guard.

UPDATE: Lost the Point Guard snowboarding, and i picked up a second BM 42, one for each front pocket. Always carry em now, even when around non-knife people. Its working to convert a few. I just ordered a Sifu for the ruler pocket on my Carharts, and have a Chinook on order. We'll see what makes it to daily carry, but I'm keeping the bali's!

I carry two with me at all times!
The first is a Mini AFCK that goes in my right front pant pocket. And the other is usually a Hatin TEC neck knife or a Kurt Meerdink 3 finger neck knife.

for the last five years i always carried a spyderco endura. ive recently switched to a microtech MA socom. I also ordered a emerson CQC7. depending on how i like it i may switch to it. i honestly don't carry more that one knife. i guess that i am the exception to the rule here. however, since i work for an airline, i'd like to get a cheap small knife that won't be a problem with security checkpoints..and which i won't cry over if i do lose it to a rent-a-cop. i'll probably get a spyderco of some sort for this duty...

i'd also like to pick up a multi-tool to carry. i'm looking at the gerber now, mainly because they have a design your own thing on the website..

After looking at them for some months I finally bought a Schrade Cliphanger Sports Mate knife. Mine is one of the smaller models with a 2 1/2" clip blade that is partially serrated.

The knife came razor sharp. It has a belt clip and a little nylon ribbon lanyard with a key ring. I plan on carrying it mostly with the belt clip.

Anyone else with experience with these knives?

Usually have one of three on my belt[in my Graley custom horizonal sheath]Speedtech Synergy,Camillus CUDA, or a Sebenza fly.
In my RF pocket a Case 61048 Slim Trapper.
Left pocket a Sebertech tool.
Larry Chew "Neck Bone"neck knife under my shirt.
Misc others when I hang with the knife guys and the show and tell.

I now carry a full size AFCK plain edge in my right front pocket, in the same pocket I carry a stockman, and in the left pocket I carry a blue SAK. If I'm not in a populated area, like at my cottage I carry a fixed blade too. Right now it's an SRK.

I carry a Spyderco Renegade in my right front pocket, a cricket as a money clip and a medium sized sak in my pocket.

workday...spidey starmate or MT Kestrel, leatherman micra and SAK soldier with alum handle...weekend, sometimes exchange starmate for Military replace soldier with SAK Rucksack..oh yes, always photon 2 lights and Swiss tool in backpack with other goodies.

Today many of us carry many different kinds of knives. But what about a plain old pocketknife? How many of you carry one?

You know what I mean, small folding knives with one or more blades that easily slip into a pocket. The blades are usually small and narrow. They were made by many knife manufacturers and usually didn't cost much. A few dollars or less. Some were given away as advertisements.

I carry a Schrade Old Timer Middleman Stockman. Sometimes I carry a Case Barlow. Those are the kinds of pocketknives that I am talking about.

In days gone by, nearly every boy and man carried a regular pocketknife. Not like today when some of us consider a pocketknife as any knife we can get in our pocket!

Pocketknives can be very personal. They automatically find their way in a guy's pocket, everyday. They were just part of a guy's "stuff" that they carried all the time. They are guy stuff. In some cases, a pocketknife was the only thing in a guy's pocket. They were used for a thousand tasks such as cutting string, opening letters and packages, peeling apples, etc. Most guy's carried the same pocketknife all their lives. Some guys were buried with their pocketknives but many get handed down to sons and grandsons.

I still have my Grandfather's pocketknife. It is a small 3 bladed advertising knife with celloid handles. Advertised a lumber mill. He probably got it free. The blades are worn to slivers. He died in 1955 so I know the knife is well over 50 years old. He was a cheesemaker. Course I don't carry that knife. It was his, I am just the caretaker.

I hope one day I can pass my pocketknife onto my Grandson - and it is legal for him to possess and carry it.

I carry a schrade old-timer middleman stockman. It gets used way more than my AFCK partially because I don't like pulling out my AFCK in public unless I really need to. People always stare at me and back away. I can't seem to figure out why...

Yeah, I do carry an old time pocket knife with me on occasion. It is an IXL dark blue plastic handle single blade knife. Small, about the same size as a mini-stockman (case). I like it. It has a lot more personality than some of my others.
