Your Crowning Achievement for 2006 Please post pictures

I'm changing my "greatest achievement" for the year. This is a letter opener I finished in the wee hours of Christmas morning for my Grandmother. It's my first finished patern welded piece and laying it on the scanner just doesn't do it justice. Sadly, that's all I have time for now. It's a 224 layer twist pattern of 1084 and 15n20 with stabilized burl scales (Not sure if they were maple or birch. They were unlabeled freebies with an order) and stainless bolts. I'm proud of it for a lot of reasons, but the best part was getting to give it to my Grandmother.

i just new you would find some thing nice to make out that skinny bar i ll have to see that and the other stuff you been workign on soon

This one is at the top of the heap for me in 2006. I call it "Midnight", and the blade is Bertie Rietveld's Dragonskin damascus. Scales are O-1 engraved and inlaid in 24K gold by Jim Small. The whole package was hot blued after the engraving was finished.

Don, WOW!

Far from fancy and very far from perfect, but for me, making anything that somewhat resembles a knife counts as a crowning achievement. My first blade made under the patient tutelage of Dan Farr. A sharp little rascal and a real comfortable user.

You probably won't get to see it. It gets packed today and leaves with Grandma tomorrow AM. I really wish I had a light box to get a decent photo of it...Maybe when it comes back up to get a maker's mark...
