You have no idea Bryce. If you couldn't manage to cut them you could sure beat them to death with it! :)

My crowing achievement for 06 has to be the last one I just finished. Its the one I like the most lets put it that way. I rarely work with G10 due to a very high allergy to the dust but I had just enough in a drawer in my shop for one last knife and did this last one in it.

I call it my new bird and trout folder. Its a Bob Dozier Sweetwater fixed blade that I turned into a lockback folder just for me. Its flawless and I love it. I have already had a couple guys try to get it from me before I even finished it so I guess some others appreciate it also. Pics don't do it justice really. I stuck a teal green jewel in the thumb stud as a finishing touch but it doesn't show up well in my scans. Sorry. I have a cheapo scanner.

The knife in it's new incarnation is the same dimensions as the original fixed blade was. A 3" blade with roughly a 4.125" handle. I made the lockbar out of the handle part of the original blade. I annealed it for a bit to soften it first but its still pretty hard. Took a carbide to drill it out I know that. I did refine the shape some due to making it all work right once I got it out though.

Thanks for looking. Some of you guys do some really stunning work. I've done several folders from scratch this year myself but I have been wanting a Dozier folder so bad that I guess this one just means more to me. I finally have one now.

Thanks for looking and happy new year to all you guys.

This year I decided to get back into knifemaking after a long vacation. Now that I am back into it I don't remember why I ever stopped, it is so much fun!

Anyway, I don't have the space or knowledge to stack and grind my own blade yet so I rely on a few good bladesmiths to fuel my addiction.

These are Christmas presents I made this year for my children. The blades are by Grand Leavitt of Snakeriver knives. (thanks Grand). Handles are Mammoth Ivory. Hardware and guards are brass and nickle silver.

Starting 2007 I think I am going to be doing some shows and trying to sell some so I can buy more stuff and keep on building knives.

Thanks for looking and Happy New Year to All!!
Kevin

Time spent sharpening a knife hones both the blade and the owner.

I have carried and used a knfe for longer than I care to remeber. I have always enjoyed being out in my workshop maiing something oe other so I suppose it had to happen eventually. I got bitten by the bug and went and made my own knife.
I had put handles on a few shop-bought blades before but never actually MADE a knife.
I bought some 5mm thick 01 toolsteel and set about it with files and wet-n-dry. I swore a lot and sweated more but I got there in the end. A good friend did the HT for me and then I set about putting the handle on MY FIRST KNIFE. It has an 8" blade, a full flat grind with a convexed edge. The handle is of cocobolo. I made the sheath with a shaped throat to accomodate the shaped guard.
As it's the only one I've ever made from scratch it HAS to be my best knife-making achievement of the year *LOL*
I feel a bit of a fraud posting it here to be honest. The company my pictures will find themselves amongst make my blade pale into insignificance. The work I see here is awe-inspiring, but my knife is my first and hell, I'm proud of it.

Made a few blades in '06 but I was really pleased with the way this one turned out.

- 5/16" 0-1
- black G-10 with stainless and mosaic pins and white liner

My leather work is coming along too :) (sorry no pics).

Wish I had more time to play 'knifey-knifey' in the shop though :( .

Nice knife and picture, but why did you cover up part of the maker's mark on your blade?? That's one to be proud of.

well mine isnt any thing special but its my first knife i was able to complete. the first one i did i ended up snaping in half trying to un warp after i finished the HT (ya ya newb mistake)

specs on this knife
4.5 inch over all
2 inch blade
01 carbon steel
red oak handle
1/16 and 1/8 brazing rod pins

in the pic it isnt sharpened but wow did this thing take an edge (i am surprised at the hardness i got from this, charcoal gheto-forge to heat, veggi oil to quench and tempering in the oven. it is to hard to use a pull thru sharpener, i have heard they are bad any way but meh either way my lansky set did very nicely)

nothing wrong with thatman. gotta start somewhere. it reminds me of my first knife... forged ground out on a 1X30 and pinned split handles of some mystery wood.

keep it up and you'll get there in no time

Hard to post these pics after seeing some of the others:eek: but here goes. I'm nearing my one year knifemaking anniversary. It's been great and things are getting better but still a ways to go. Here's a couple more recent.

Thanks for looking and Happy Holidays

Oh yes a long long way to go. I guess true if your in some whacked alternate dimension where good is bad and bad is good heheh.

Nice looking knives you got there.

Wish i had have the skill you do.
Im hoping to get some 5160 here and make a few 3 finger utils skinner etc type paterns. Maybe ill have something to post in the crowning thread for next year.

Nova,
I'm glad you liked them and thank you sincerely for the compliments. If you ever need any help I will be glad to offer assistance, as are so many here. Truly a great bunch of people.

Thanks Chris ;) . Yeah I should have posted the 'clean' pic here. Blocked it out for posting on another site where I'd rather not have my name out on.
