There are plenty of EDC threads, but few taught about WHY each of us choose what we choose.

My most common EDC is my Spyderco Native in S30v -BECAUSE I LIKE THE BLADE SHAPE,THICKNESS,MATERIAL, AND LENGTH. I ALSO LIKE THE GRIP SIZE.

Or it might be my Spyderco Rescue 93mm - BECAUSE OF THE BLADE SHAPE, SIZE, MATERIAL, AND BECAUSE IT IS UNIQUE.

I always have either a SS or FRN Cricket in my wallet - BECAUSE OF

ITS GREAT USE OF SIZE, SHAPE, MATERIALS, WEIGHT, AND OVERALL UTILITY.
yOUR FEEDBACK WILL VERY USEFUL TO ME AND NEWBIES CHECKING OUT GENERAL DATA!!!

Please add your becauses!

This may change after Christmas. :)

Right now my EDC almost exclusively has been the BM710HSSR. I carry it because the G-10 handles are tough and don't get scratched up in my pocket from my keys. I can quickly open and close the blade. It's a very solid knife and has the very strong Axis lock. I like the blade shape and size as it would make for a good self defense knife if I ever had to use it for that.

I also usually carry my Spyderco Cricket SS PE for when I don't want to pull out the big blade around sheeple. I also try to keep a Leatherman Micra in my left pocket if I would need scissors or a little tool. I also have a SAK Midnight Manager II on my key ring which gives me a pen, LED light, bottle opener and scissors if I would forget the Micra. :)

Lately my edc consists of a Kershaw leek, either a rainbow one or a black one. Great blade style for general utility( slightly modified wharncliff, plain edge), fun gadget factor with the assisted opening, and I like the looks.

My other edc is usually a Spyderco Civilian. Wicked looking blade( great slicer with serrated edge), the handle fits my hand well, and the lock is solid.

Sometimes I substitute a Benchmade AFCK for the Spyderco. My favorite handle shape, very smooth into and out of the pocket for a fairly large knife, and better hole than the Spydercos IMO( beveled edges).

My EDC is a Swamp Rat Bandicoot in a Kydex Okuden sheath and a Victorinox multitool. I like the Bandicoot because it's compact, but still big enough to handle 99% of what I need from a knife,it's STRONG (so for me it mean reliable) and razor sharp! It conceal extremely well in the Okuden kydex sheath. It's a pure joy to carry!

Favorite EDC has got to be my SAK Fireman.

Most used, large locking blade, and people don't freak out when they see it.

Most used features, large blade, bottle opener, screw driver and toothpick.

The tweezers were especially handy when we had to extract a tick from my friends back at a camping trip. You have to keep the tick intact so that it can be analyzed for lyme disease.

Try that with a tactical folder.:D

My 2 EDC folders are an Al Mar SERE 2000 and an Al Mar Nomad. The reason why these are my EDC is because of the way they feel in my hand, because of the VG-10 steel, dual stainless liners, G-10 scales, and with the SERE 2000, because it rides very low in my pocket, and the fact that it is very "lefty-friendly". They are both VERY solid knives, and I like that.

I have two EDC configurations. For work, I carry a Schrade multi-tool with slip-joint pliers and the Leatherman Pulse. The slip-joints will handle 80% of what I am up against on the job. The Pulse I use for the scissors or if I need needle nose pliers. I usually have a Schrade Stockman just for kicks.
My days off I have a Leatherman Wave which handles everything around the house and on the road. A Schrade 7OT is always on my belt for whatever comes up. Sometimes I'll also carry a fixed blade just to look cool.

I carry a WOO neck knife-by Newt Livesay,
A Kershaw 1416 XXL Starkey Ridge,
A Spyderco Calypso Jr.,
A Leatherman Micra

They are quality tools that are efficient designs, executed in quality materials, and I enjoy having the right tool for the job.

I only carry the Benchmade Mini-AFCK (PE, Satin finish).
I do have a manual action Dominator. Considering that I paid
$160 for it, I now have "The Fear" of carrying it due to loss or damage. If and when a regular MA production Dominator comes out,($100 or less) I'll make that one my EDC and retire my Mini-AFCK.

I am beginning to believe that most of my knives are PDC's: Potential Day Carry knives.

Sometimes I feel a little classy, and I go for the CRKT Crawford/Kasper folder. Nice, sleek, and the smaller model looks very respectable.

Sometimes I feel the need for a tough knife, one that I can abuse endlessly and carefree. My Buck Strider, with G-10 scales as tough as nails, and a liner almost a quarter inch thick.

When I don't know where I might be going I stick an Arclite in the left side of my waistband and an El Hombre in my right front pocket, although currently my EH is undergoing tsunami surgery with Dr.Emel (read:bad pun).

Can't seem to stick to just one...
:D

At work, a Buck/Mayo because it is slim, light and mostly non-threatening. Sometimes this is backed up by a BM 705 or one of the smaller Spydies.

Everywhere else, a BM 806D2 because I love the feel, it's tough and a joy to use.

I've been trying to get away from snobby, trendy stuff (so I just bought two Surefires), things I can actually use, get good service, but not cry over if they got dinged.

I love my Striders, but winter is coming to Wisconsin. We got a dusting last night, but upper Wisconsin got a lot more. From now on I'm going to be shoveling, loading salt, getting wet and wearing even more decidely crappy clothes than I usually do. And if I lost my Striders in a snow drift, well, let's not think about that.

However, I like good steel. Something that takes a razor edge on the Edge-Pro. So for these wet, clammy nights, I just bought a All Weather Companion of ATS-34.

I've had a similar knife, it worked well and it has a nylon handle, so there is very little to rust. If the thing got soaked in my pants or jacket from a blizzard and stayed there for a few days, it wouldn't matter.

And for 78 bucks, if a friend needed or wanted a knife (even to keep), I could just toss it to him with few cares. It would be like donating a can-opener to a soup kitchen; ten minutes later it would be forgotten.

I know this sounds crass for a knife collector, but sometimes you have to out into the slop (which lasts six months) and you still have to cut and repair things. In a blizzard, the only thing you want to do is secure your friends and get to a warm fire. The knife cleaning can wait.

I rotate between the either my BM31 or my Dozier Straight Personal. Sometimes both, and occasionally my BM42 thrown in as well.

BM31- I love balisongs and I like to have one with me. It's a good thing to have to play with at work when we are slow and it's small enough so that when I use it in front of customers to open a box or something they don't seem to care. It's fun, convenient, great cutter in a non threatening size.

Dozier- For when I feel like carrying a fixed blade. Amazingly good cutter and extremely comfortable in the hand. Bob is a master at making simple, functional fixed blades. It was my first handmade knife and I love it. It also carries very, very well on the horizontal sheath in the cross draw position.

After Christmas my TRUE EDC (as in carried every single day) will be my small classic Zebrawood inlay Sebenza. It is going to be a gift from my wife who is in Iraq. She's getting the same thing but with Snakewood inlay. I love the Sebenza, it is a very comfortable knife to use, carries excellently with the best pocket clip I have ever used and has superior fit and finish.

All these knives have blades in the aprox. 3" range. I find this length perfect for my EDC usage.

Dozier Personal Utility and the Slip Joint du..du...of the day.
;)
I started keeping the Dozier around after 9/11 and reading about the guys that had to cut thru double thick sheet rock with a squeegie handle. I could see the Personal Ute handling that and maybe a little can opener action on those aluminum (?) studs.
The slippie is for everyday stuff. Lately a D2 Queen Canoe or a Case CV congress. Lots of fun to put a real fine egde on and just zip curly-cues in the Chips Ahoy wrapper.

My EDCs are the BM tether always due to the small blade length (legal), unobtrusivness, and comfort. In my pocket is either a MT LCC D/A for comfort of use, quality, and coolness factor, or I carry my BM 720 for its comfort and ability to get abused severely and still work like a charm.

my edc is the frn spyderco *delica* plain edge. here's why: it got great steel (vg10), it's light, small but large enough to do seriuos cutting, thin (not bulky in your trouser pocket) and it's almost invisible when you wear black or dark clothes.

regards, holger

My EDC's

Large blade: G.W.Hawk D.O.G. - It has a good size and shape of both the blade and the handle. Its tip up clip design makes it my most comfortable large knife to carry. It's AUS8, and the lock up is solid.
I trust this lock design over all the others I own. Its fun to open and close; a very neat knife:cool:

Small blade: Scallion - It is a nice size in or out of pocket.
A very cool design with the assisted opening and flipper. I have made some custom scales for mine; so that I could mount the clip for RH tip up carry(on belt) or LH tip up carry(in left pocket). It is sheeple friendly:D

Tool: Gerber Recoil - I've got to have pliers. I like the way the jaws shoot out. But what i really like is the spring loaded grip that keeps the jaws open, when at rest. All in all it feels very solid to me. This one is new to me though, i have had it 2 months, so we'll see.

Right now I EDC a large Buck/Strider tanto. This was a gift from the most beautiful girl in the world, whom I'm lucky enough to get to marry in May. The edge is hair popping sharp, and I can cut, pry, hack and chop anything I come across daily. The lock-up on this knife is SOLID. I love the thick liners on this one.

I'd love the new Strider MARSOC, and I'm looking at getting a Kershaw Onion Speed Safe knife (new ones out in Jan.) for fun. I'm really digging Onion stuff lately, but I have a Kershaw budget :)

Busse Assault Shaker in Leatherman horisontal sheath, BM Rescue Hook and LM Micra.
Because: The Assault Shaker more than fulfills me needs for cutting and will even work for self defense if needed. It is also highly concealable in Dwayne's fantastic rig.
The BM Rescue Hook is great as a "non knife" for use around knife-scared people (=most of my co-workers). Works great for cutting strings, zip ties and stuff and is fantastic for zipping open a coffee bag - and it can deliver a mean punch when held right as well!
The LM Micra, well.....it's got scissors for trimming my beard and nails, nailfile, screwdrivers, etc.... can't get through a day without it!
edc-stuff

Normal EDC lately is the

Strider SnG: reason? It's a framelock, lightweight, strong, made from good matrials, heat treated by the best [ BOS ]and small enough to sit in the pocket all day with no thought and tough enough to get one through the hard times. This is the defensive knife.

Exrema Ratio MPC: reason? It is the strongest knife [ folder ]I have ever seen. A lockback, that has an additional crossbolt safety like a shotgun/leveraction which physically prevents the knife from closing unintentionally. This is the every day, all day survival knife which can cut/pry one out of anythng they may find themselves into.
