Your favorite dedicated hurtin' knife

Here's a real contribution to get the ball rolling again. Nothing like having a folding short sword in your pocket!

Nice choice. The only thing stopping me from buying one is the fact people will think I'm some kind of sick pervert.

They already know that about me.

Although I also carry a medium Voyager clip point for normal use so nobody sees the hurtin' knife.

I've had a few hurt my fingers now and then. :D And the wife near took the top of her thumb off with an Endura a while back. Other than that, I'll focus on processing wood.

If I'm going to carry a knife specifically as a weapon, it might as well have some reach. Something like a CRKT Ultima 7 or Boker Plus Armed Forces (fixed blade version) should do the trick, or maybe a Buck Nighthawk.

If the idea is to stab someone, then go with something that is designed for meat. You can buy a whole bunch for just a few dollars.

It doesn't have to be pricey. Nor need you worry overly much about edge retention, since you are probably going to use it once before you go away for a while. There are a lot of very good knives mentioned on this tread. Many of which I own myself. But, these are primarily sporting and utilitarian designs, intended for more dificult tasks, like camp chores or wood processing. If the intent is just to hurt someone, well that is a pretty low hurdle to meet. Just go with what most professional criminals use....the common kitchen knife. It is lethal, inconspicuous, readily available and cheap.

there have been "dedicated hurtin' knives" since the dawn of time in every shape from every civilization. No need to make fun of them because it happens to be 2014. It just wouldn't be the same if the samurai's tanto, knight's rondel, Arab's jambiya, frontiersman's bowie were all replaced with $2 steak knives.

"Sir Ulric, what form of dirk wouldst thou suggest?"
"Prithee, Sir James, useth thy table cutlery! Blades make for poor weapons, no need to spend thy coin!"

Not very fun at all.

I do not believe there is any knife that symbolizes a weapon more so than "the dagger." It is timeless in design; as if it was almost destined to exist, and has been featured throughout much of civilized human history from various places around the globe.

The dagger is intrinsically interesting, IMHO, even if there is no use for one.

Here is one I made "rough and ready" out of an old file:

I'm gonna go with my Glock 19.

Same here but it's a 26.

Jeepster has it right. My CCW is for self defense...But.....to indulge fantasy my favorite nasty blade right now is the BM Bedlam. Someone mentioned worthless without pics?

Ok, I change my answer to a Gladius, group hug.

Cool thread did not mean to poop on your parade.

Jeepster, I found your post pretty interesting since you have had first hand experience with using a knife in a fight.

My pick would have to be the Yojimbo 2. It will almost cut me if I so much as look at it wrong.

Antdog, I loved the joke in the beginning and definitely understand about your friend in the later post. I have some acquaintances, and know a few terrific guys here on the BF, but I only have one true friend. He's been more than a brother to me for 26 years.

Now as far as the OP's original question on the hurtin' knives. Hmmm, any one of these will do if the AR and Glock run out of ammo.

Love the Randall! What is that on the bottom left?

That is a piece of banding that I put a heater tube on for a handle and then sharpened the edge. First knife I ever made.

Seriously, I use it to scrape the inside of kydex sheaths to remove any burrs that happen during drilling the holes. Doesn't happen often but that little flat flexible steel can reach way down in there and help me avoid taking a sheath apart.

Actually that's an older pic. There's some China junk in there before I became educated about knives and some were gifts I refuse to throw away out respect for friends and family who paid there hard earned money for them. I still have that banding blade. :D
