Your favorite knife company/ Your favorite thing about them?

Well.

I like my ESEE Izula for it's fixed blade simplicity and comfortable carry size. It hits that sweet spot between too small to take seriously, and too big for EDC.

I have an Emerson CQC-7, mostly because I had some bonus money from work burning a hole in my pocket. On paper, it's nothing special. But all the parts are there for a reason, and the assembled knife is more than the sum of them.

Kizer's team-up with Ray Laconico was a master stroke, and may have earned them as much as %70 of the total respect they now have. I bought a Gemini because I've been a fanboi of Ray's for years, but knew I would never be able to touch a Jasmine, and would be far too afraid to use it properly!

Cold Steel, because, Andrew Demko. I don't really care about Lynn Thompson, just keep making that Triad Lock.

Now, having said that, the size has to be right. 3" blade is right for me, and more than 3.5" is just awkward.

TOPS Knives. I own a Lil' Roughneck, and I carry it when I think I might need an EDC splitting maul. :p

Columbia River Knife And Tool. My favorite guilty knife pleasure, and the company I keep coming back to. They were my gateway to "more expensive" knives ($20 Mtechs to an $80 Lightfoot M1 is a big jump!), and I keep coming back to them.

Right now I'm giving a CRKT large Batum a ride in my pocket on the weekends, and I like the substantial feel of it. It is neither light, nor small in the pocket, and it's size and weight give me the confidence to push it much harder than I would most other framelocks.

It's hard to choose just one company.

Victorinox is one of my favourites not only because they make good quality products that I've used for years, but also because their SAKs were a big part of my childhood and a gateway to knives as a hobby. I lived in Switzerland for a short while in my early teens and loved visiting their factory. They've got a cool history and, from what little I know, are fair to their workers.

Mora of Sweden (and Eriksson and Frost before that) also deserve an honourable mention. They are probably the ugliest fixed blades in my collection, but they get used the most. I was introduced to Frosts through some of the rasps and tools they make for shoeing horses.

For EDC folders my current favourite is ZT. I use knives from other manufacturers, but I truly enjoy ZT's design and workmanship.

Spyderco, they have such a variety of designs and steels. Always coming out with new sprints, exclusives and new surprises to keep it interesting

Spyderco (designs, philosophy, origins, collabs, variety of styles and uses, Sal and Eric and their presence on forums/listening to fans) and Cold Steel (martial oriented mindset, wide and really diverse catalog, XL Folders, price and value)

Really tough to say.
The last couple of days I've been fanboying Buck because I just bought a 55 and it's awesome.
But before that I would have told you Spyderco or ZT.
ZT and Spyderco for the same reason; consistent fit and finish from USA and built like a brick house.

Spyderco for me. to me the spydie hole is just smart, why would I want anything protruding from the side of my blade getting in the way of cutting.

ESEE for simple fixed blades, just practical and functional.
Busse on the higher end of things...

No opinion on folders.

I suppose that running around in the P. A. Bush where Mors used to live, with my Esee's, is too ghetto for you toon town Busse collectors lol

Spyderco : for getting me started . I was an early adopter of the Police Model . Revolutionized my thinking on fighting folders and got me into collecting .

Cold Steel : for LT's unabashedly martial orientation and proof videos . The Triad lock and their huge fighting folders - 5.5 " plus blades .

Kershaw/ KAI - ZT , Benchmade . Even Ganzo and Bad Blood Knives for value bargains .

Hard to pick just one !

Spyderco was my favorite, but since MAP I just kind of keep up with them now. Cold Steel has been getting my money lately. Tough, reliable, and the upgrade to CTS-XHP has been stupendous. Price to performance is very high. I've been beating on a Recon 1 for over a year and a half now and it just keeps ticking. I've cut a tractor tire off, scraped off tons of stuck on gaskets, cut up plastic oil bottles, cut rope, stripped wires, pried a stubborn intake manifold loose, and God knows what else with it. I'm also the type to flip when I'm bored and it's probably been opened and closed thousands of times. Still rock solid.

I have a Broken Skull on me at all times even when I sleep. It's thinner and lighter (3oz) than an Endura with a longer CTS-XHP blade. It isn't even noticeable in my basketball shorts that I wear around the house. I figure if home carrying a pistol isn't all that weird then a super light folder shouldn't be either. I'm glad I got past the sometimes goofy adverts and videos to gave Cold Steel a chance.

its always cool to hear the diverse opinions.
What are your favorite brands? Your favorite models? What is it about each brand that excites you? What do they do "right" for you? Why do you like it?

You should tell us what your favorite is as well.

I've drifted away from them lately but overall Spyderco would be my favorite for their quality, price and variety, followed very closely by CRK.

Um... I have a few that are tied

Swamprat (Busse) - like their designs and sr101 steel

Fallkniven - like their simple effective designs and convex grinds

Becker - best budget blades in my opinion and experience

Tops - their handles and kydex and really done well

Cold Steel and Benchmade lately.

Cold Steel - I like the big, unbreakable folding knives that won't break my wallet!
Benchmade - Axis lock is the most fun to play with, and I like the thought of owning a knife for life (because of the excellent customer service)

I can barely decide which company is my favorite. I knew this would be difficult for some. If I were forced to decide (by knifepoint) I'd go with Spyderco. The majority of the folding knives I own are Spyderco. Most of my favorite folding designs are Spyderco. I like each design that I like because I like it. There isn't much too it. They either fit, weigh a decent weight, have a steel I like, designed by a designer I like, all the above, etc. I love how Sal is so responsive and informative. There are so many things I've learned from his posts and there are so many posts of his to still see, its incredible. It just gives you more pride in owning and carrying Spyderco knowing the owner is so transparent, knowledgeable and kind. The amount of steels to choose from within the price range I can afford is big so that's another huge plus for me. My favorite knives by Spyderco are the Delica (ffg), Dragongly 2, and the Manix 2 in g10. Why? They are not to pricy, vg10 and s30v are awesome, and I can use them and replace them if they break with no sweat. Those three are my most carried and used knives I own too. I also like Buck, Benchmade, and so many more. I just have a special love for Spyderco as my first "higher end" knife was a Paramilitary 2. That's what started my knife addiction.
