Your first high quality knife?

It was a long time ago. It was a benchmade. It was a nice knife. It was also the first knife that I had stolen.

1987 Gerber Paul Knife - still love that knife...

then 1992 a Wayne Goddard Micarta.... then waaay too many more...

Buck 112 that I bought around 1980.

My gateway-knife was a Kershaw Scallion H3. Not a bad knife by any means, but not sure if it would be considered "high quality". I'd say my first "high-q" knife was the Spyderco Dragonfly 2, which led to the purchase of a digicam Paramilitary 2 very shortly thereafter.

Hard to say. My first knife was a victorinox sak. My first higher priced knife was a Sog mini xray vision.

Victorinox Boy Scout Knife. My dad bought it for me at my first Jamboree.

First fixed blade was a Buck 119 my dad got me when I earned the rank of Life Scout.

First expensive folder was a CS Vaquero Grande (yes, I was 16, and that was back when they came with a kydex sheath rather than a clip). MY first Spyderco followed within a year and I never looked back.

First "custom" was a Randall Model 14 I received from my parents after graduating from high school.

What was your first high quality knife? Mine was a Case trapper

that's admirable.
for me high quality meant a folder that didn't have blade play.
or something which didn't rust (yeah, that was a long time ago).
i think mine was a wenger sak.
but i guess that wouldn't really qualify as a high quality knife.
but a product with high quality control.
my first fixed blade would have been a buck knives 116 caper.
that ought to be high quality enough to have passed my highest quality standard.

Most of what people have posted on here (e.g. case trapper) are not "high" quality but "good" quality. Semantics. My first was a used Microtech Socom elite. I was a cold steel voyager guy, nothing wrong with them, good quality. The materials and fit and finish of the SOCOM were "next level" that's what I consider high quality.

My first was a Benchmade Model 800 AFCK bought back in 2001. I foolishly sold it in 2006. If I had only known what I had at the time :(

In order of acquisition..

Victorinox SAK
Benchmade 705
Buck 110

There are several others that have been purchased before or since but those are the three that I consider the best in my meager collection.

My Benchmade 551, with a black coated plain edged blade. I bought it for a princely (for a college student) sum of $89, which dug pretty deep into my savings account at the time. That was about 5 years ago, I think, and since then I've smoothed out the handles a bit, bent and re-bent the clip, stonewashed the blade, and touched it up on the Sharpmaker I don't know how many times. It's taken a lickin and keeps on tickin, its still my choice for a full size tough folder. I need a backup though, I'd hate to lose it somewhere.

Had a Spyderco "something" when I was young and had no real appreciation for how nice it was (Christmas gift from parents). First high quality knife I bought for myself once I had a better understanding and ability to appreciate them was Spyderco Manix 2.

Showing my age, but I saved up on my own and bought a CS Trailmaster from Atlanta Cutlery in 1988. I was a sophomore in HS, and had a hankerin' for a big 'ole bowie/chopper. That knife did not disappoint. Retired it in recent years.

I actually used once it as an emergency canoe anchor with 550 cord...

Loved that knife.

Prof.

Mine was a Buck 119 I got when I was a in my early teens. Up till then all I had was some cheap Made in Pakistan knives when as a kid I though were the greatest things ever.

my first high quality knife was a benchmade 45 balisong. I miss the thing. Worst of all I gave it away to an undeserving individual twice. Not my proudest hour. Almost got it back but alas its not meant to be.
