Your First Spyderco

Not only my first spidie, but also the first knife I bought.

This caly3 is responsible for getting me eyeball deep into knives. It has led to many more spyderco knives and many other brands as well.

Still have it, still love it!

That is a well used Caly3, I've always liked them but never owned one, seems like it would make a great EDC

I carried mine for well over a year before the venom deep cycle ran it's course. Really great ergos, well made and great steel.

My first spyderco was actually the second knife I ever bought. It is a stretch in superblue steel and I carried it exclusively for almost two years. I have bought and sold a few other spydercos since then, but I can't bear to part with that beat up old stretch. The stretch has now been kicked out of my edc rotation by a carbon fiber cpm-m4 pm2.

I always liked spyderco's idea of removing from the blade to open it rather than adding. I was originally planning to get a PM2 in S110V but something about the Nirvana made that my first and as of today only spyderco.

That "something" for me is the price. That's "heavy" for me, even though the Rassenti design and S90V blade-steel is outstanding.
My first Spydie was the Caly 3 and it's a great folder for the work-place, where a smaller blade is reasonably acceptable. I have owned many Spyderco models since then, and the company is by far my favorite.

Native 110V LW, then PM2 110V, then Military 52100, then DF II ZDP 189.........please help me.......

A Tenacious was the my first Spyderco. I really like this knife and it still gets carry time in the rotation even though I now own 7 more Spydies.

Spyderco Endura was my first knife. It was shitty quality and I sold it after 3 months, but after that I bought Manix 2 in S110V. And now I own Military S110V and K2 Farid. What a fantastic blades!
I like Spyderco as a company for experimenting with different steels. Actually it's one and only company doing that. Way to go SPYDERCO!!!

my first, tenacious witch i still own and my 2nd was plane FRN/gin-1 native that i'll always keep, from there it was all down-hill(count 26 spyderco's.

The Standard C05 was my first model, I traded it. Wish I had kept it. Did'nt know about Spyderco back then. Gary

Started to pick it back up in the late 90s, kinda been a favorite now. love the hole opening & ffg on some models. Gary

Delica 1. Bought it about 1991. I started carrying it again, every Sunday for the last 6 months or so. It slips into my Sunday-best and disappears. Only 1.8 oz. Super smooth action compared to a D-4; a lot better finished too (the chamfering on the Spydie Hole is simply beautiful!).

I am obsessed with my Nirvana. I couldn't be happier with it. IMO , the Nirvana is just on another level as far as production knives go.

Anyway , my first Spyderco was the Manix2 in October 2010. Awesome knife.

I held off on buying a Spyderco for a long time - I thought they were the ugliest knives I had ever seen.
Same for me.

Didn't like their looks at all. Then I held one! O-M-G  What was I thinking?!

My first was a blue Endura off the Exchange. But it eventually proved to be a bit too large for me to EDC.

2nd was a Delica and it was 'perfect'. Now I probably have a dozen Delicas in various styles and steels.

Is it expensive in regards to price, yes without a question. But I'll be honest and say that objectively in terms of doing knife duties a paramilitary 2 is almost always going to win out be it ergonomics, weight, slicing ability(especially this), and grip options. The Nirvana in my two months of EDC use has done a lot however it does have its limitations especially in regards to people friendliness(Roadie is king there), and slicing(PM2/Caly/Millie any decent kitchen knife etc.). The price is for me a nonissue as I justify objects by cost per hour used and depreciation which I anticipate won't be too bad. Rassenti himself on instagram showed off a second generation Nirvana so I wonder what that holds for the future.

I'm going to ignore the Endura that I can't stand and call the Blurple PM2 on the way my first Spyderco :o

I did the same thing, once you get one in hand you are hooked and really appreciate them. And the Delica is pretty great.

My first Spydie...

Yeah, like many others I'd thought about getting one for a long time due to the interesting steels, but was always put off by what seemed like cheap plastic handles and the odd, funky lines of the designs, combined with what I thought were high prices for such knives. The one I usually looked at was the old sabre ground ZDP Delica.

Well, more fool me. I finally bit the bullet after enjoying the performance of a couple of Japanese kitchen knives in VG10 and thought it would be cool to have a thinly ground pocket knife in that steel.

Well, many Spydies later and this obsession has inspired me to visit Seki Japan - I have stayed at one of the houses of the family that own G.Sakai, and enjoyed the lavish hospitality of Takefu Special Steel at their 60th Anniversary celebrations. I've never sold any I own - I love 'em all - and pretty much all my close friends and family have one now, and swear by them!

That little VG10 Delica has been the most carried of many fine and varied EDC knives I've been lucky to own, and I would still say it's the best all round personal cutting tool I've ever had. I value in my knives ergonomic handling; ability to take and hold an extremely fine, stable edge; ease of resharpening, and lightness and unobtrusiveness of carry. This knife is almost perfect in those respects.

I've made some mods over the years...

Here it is shortly after I got it:

And how it looks today:
