Your knife at the restaurant...

how is "no, i'm sorry, we have nothing sharper" denying him anything? he asked, they answered, end of story.

I don't know where you got that from. Go back and read. The dude simply said no (according to post). Hence my reaction. Clear?

Pretension, thy name is Tony.

I have never eaten somewhere that hasn't provided an adequate knife.

I think most people here that say they would use/have used their own knives do it for one simple reason. They want to use THEIR knife. And I'm sorry if I disagree with you, but I think its pretentious to whip out your own knife and use it at a restaurant. Yea, its sharper than a steak knife, but that steak knife has always been more than adequate for everyone else but you. yakno?

Maybe you should bring your own flatware also, and dishes...can never be too safe.

Or they are looking for a reason to play with them..... Even know there is a more than adequate tool on the table to use they pull out their folder.......

Oh come on..... REALLY......

Unless they are eating at places that only provide plastic forks and knives and serve the food on paper or plastic plates.

If the knife they give you to cut your steak at a restaurant can't cut the steak, you need a better restaurant, not a sharper knife.

When i've had to use my Old Timer for food it was always due to only plastic-ware being around.

I think some of you guys ought to just order the soup.;)

Make sure you bring your titanium spork.:D

That or they need to have someone else cut up their food for them like they did when they were kids then pat them on the head when they are done. ;)

There you go, see how easy that was Sir....(As the Wife, GF ect is laughing their butt off)?

Anything else I can do for you, a bib maybe, or a high chair?

Of course, to remove me, they would have to need to call the police, which wouldn't work when the knife is legal and I made no threats to anyone. But I would love to see a place in town try and then be lucky enough in the timing to have my godchild's father or someone I used to work with on the same shift come down to kick me out for cutting food with a knife.

There's sticking up for yourself and then there's being an idiot. If after being asked to leave a person is so stubborn they force the hand of the owner to call the cops, that person has crossed the idiot line. I don't believe you're an idiot and you'd opt for leaving rather then have the police called to the restaraunt. The end result is the owner asking you to never come back and you'd probably never come back anyway so you have nothing to gain by taking it that far.

Umm...if it's a cute redhead doing the cutting then yes please. :D

A blind date asked me to escort her to a humane society "spay and neuter dinner". the venue was in a rough part of town so I slipped me FFG Endura in my pocket. When a drunk at my table exclaimed that he couldn't cut his eggplant with his plastic knife I passed my spyderco around and everybody was delighted I had brought it- that is until tasting the eggplant.

Happy, healthy and prosperous new year to all.

Seriously? I don't understand why you guys have a bug up your asses about using a pocket knife to cut up your food at a restaurant. It's one's own prerogative. You both must live in a magical land where restaurants actually provide a sharp instrument to cut your food. I don't live there and when I go out to eat I get handed a knife that hasn't been able to properly slice meat since 1996. Instead, I get to smash and tear my food apart with what is the equivelant of the side of a spoon. No thanks, I'll just use the knife in my pocket. Not because I want to play with it, or wave it around for all to see, or even to try and impress anyone. I use it because it's there and it cuts better than the dull piece of metal they put on the table and call a knife.

The idea of carrying your own flatware or dishes is probably one of the most inane things I've seen written on this forum. This is a forum for what? Knives you say? Not the flatware and fine china EDC forum? I carry a knife everyday and I use it for cutting (imagine that). Unfortunately, I don't EDC a set of silverware, a plate, and a bowl. If I did then I would probably use them at a restaurant. You two can feel free to smash and tear your food apart with some ridiculous butter knife, not me. Since this arguing is all for naught as my reasoning won't sway you and nothing anyone says will sway me, I will take my leave of this thread.

I wont usually at a restaurant but at my friends house for dinner it gets whipped out.

BTW ... Who gives a shit if someone uses there folder at a restaurant !

I've used my knife 3-4 times in a restaurant. It has always been my Woodswalker and no one (other than my wife) appeared to notice I was using it.

Sometimes going to another restaurant or returning food to the kitchen isn't possible. The last time the Woodswalker attacked a steak was in Masaya, Nicaragua. I really believe that the only tenderizing the steak got was the jockey whipping it just before it died!:)

How ironic is it that the same prissy manner police in this thread have at times called others "sheeple"?;)

I like to EDC a small kettle sometimes....is that strange? Asking a waiter for lots of lemon, sugar, and water...making my own lemonade?

It's only strange if it isn't titanium.;)

What WOULD be strange would be if you actually EDCed a small kettle and then never used it.
That would just be bizarre.
