Your knife collection size

Last count was about 4-5 dozen folders and about 2-3 dozen fixed blades:oops:.

Collecting bug bit about 2 years ago. Not counting the kitchen knives, I'm up to around 90 knives. I was under 10 before I started. Currently I have about 50 fixed blades, 40 folders. Nearly all the fixed blades are hunting or fishing knives, with Bird and Trout knives making up the highest percentage. Have a couple of custom fixed blades. Folders tend to run towards flippers, or gentleman's knives. Starting to expand into some traditional's. I figure I'll keep acquiring until I suddenly realize, Dummy, you're not saving any money to get that new guitar.....

My "collection" can hardly be called one anymore. Most of them are gone. I've kept a very few of my favorites, but 95% of what I've once owned is gone. Not a great surprise. I only carried one EDC at a time...usually for two years or so, and then I found a different one. The others? I had them in a box, in their little boxes...in my safe, and often sold one or two to buy the next one... At one time or another, I would have about sixty folders in my safe, as well as numerous fixed blades...all new-in-box.
I am getting older now, and I have no use for a "collection" as such. But I am happy for those of you who still do. It's a great hobby...

Been collecting since getting out of college in 1989, I think it is about 100+ knives, mostly fixed blades.....I have mentioned this before, that I have so many knives in my sock drawer that it no longer can be called a sock drawer, but a knife drawer where an occasional pair of socks may fit. Also, when I was showing my daughter some of my favorite knives, she replied that I say they all are my favorites. BAM!! You just realize you have the sickness. It can be contagious. In the last few years I have thought of thinning the herd, but deep down I make excuses why I do not just sell any here. The appeal of trading a few does seem a possible remedy.

About 80 which includes 4 edc fixed blades. I need to sell or trade some and it is hard to do.

Not counting Kitchen Knives, I guess it tends to gravitate between ~15-25 Fixed Blades, Folders, and Autos. It usually tends to climb throughout the year and then I wind up giving away 6 or 7 blades as gifts around the holidays.

This photo was taken almost a year ago, and a lot has gone in and out since then, but this should give a general idea of the size of the collection:

Is no one going to ask why you have (or had) three CRKT wrinkles, all in brown?

Not really sure how big my collection is. I'd guess 35 to 50. Maybe more. Most of them sit collecting dust.

I recently acquired a nice four drawer file cabinet. All my knives are going in the top drawer as I come across them.

I want to downsize the collection but, for every knife I part with, my friends and neighbors give me two more.

My "collection" is larger than some, and smaller than others.
I think I have in the neighborhood of 50 to 60.
Only 1 or 2 are modern oho. The rest are traditional slipjoint folders, lock backs, and fixed blades.
Of the traditional slipjoints, only two are a single blade.

At some point I had over 30 or 40. Now I'm back down to about 10-12 that I really like. Still way more than I could use in a lifetime. I don't like having a bunch of stuff in boxes that don't get used. I use all of the ones I currently have.

I don't really think I have a collection... I have knives that have a purpose and/or are used often, with a few exceptions. This thread caused me to do an inventory, though, and I discovered that (excluding kitchen knives) I have about 25 knives.

Folders:
  • Spyderco Manix2 - carried occasionally, instead of my Guardian
  • Spyderco Persistence - carried occasionally, instead of my Guardian
  • Spyderco Kiwi with stainless scales - carried occasionally
  • Opinel #8 - in a small toolkit in my backpack
Multi-Tools:
  • SAK Classic - on my keychain
  • SAK Farmer - in my pocket most days
  • SAK ?something? - as of yet an unidentified SAK I grabbed at an "antique" shop in town. I need to clean it up and ID it.
  • 2 Leatherman Rebar - 1 in the car emergency kit, 1 in a small toolkit in my backpack or on my belt when I hike/camp
  • Leatherman Micra - in a small toolkit in my backpack
  • An old Kamp King scout knife - from my childhood, rarely carried, but rediscovered and cleaned up a while back
Fixed Blades:
  • Bradford Guardian 3 in M390 - on my belt most days
  • A.G. Russell Woodswalker - carried when I don't want a belt knife, but want a fixed blade
  • Schrade SCHF9 - in the camping gear - bought before I knew much about knives - its an edged prybar
  • Mora Eldris -- in my car's emergency bag
  • 4 or more Mora Companions and Robusts - 1 in the camp gear, 1 next to the fireplace, 1 in the firepit fire kit, one in a drawer, another one or two floating around.
  • 3 assorted A.G. Russell small fixed blades - I got to see what might work for my daughter's first knife
  • machete - in the garage for dealing with aggressive vegetation
My wife has 6 knives:
  • Spyderco Delica 4 - in her pocket, when she has pockets to put it in
  • Spyderco Dragonfly Tattoo - in her purse as a backup for when her clothes don't have pockets
  • Spyderco Ladybug - new addition that she is using instead of the Delica some days
  • SAK Classic - on her keychain
  • Opinel #8 - carried occasionally
  • Mora Eldris -- in her car's emergency bag
My daughter has one (as of her recent birthday): a SAK My First Victorinox, which she loves. This was not my first choice for her, but my wife and I compromised on it, and I restocked the first aid kit.

I'm sure there are a few others knocking around the house somewhere, but I think I got most of them.
I thought about a pic, but digging them all out of their homes ain't happening this week. Sorry.

Enjoy

Is no one going to ask why you have (or had) three CRKT wrinkles, all in brown?

I was waiting for someone to ask that! They were on sale on Amazon a while back, and I bought four to give away as gifts (and to gross people out). Despite the, shall we say, unique look, the Wrinkle is actually a pretty good knife. Excellent flipping action, super smooth, very thin hollow grind that makes it excel at slicing, comfortable in the hand, and good fit and finish (nicely rounded spine, no sharp edges, etc.). The clip looks silly and it's only tip-down but it really works well as a clip.

I counted 101, of what I would consider quality knives. That doesn't include the 25 or 30 "toss in the generic box" knives I've acquired over the years. (Brands like CRKT, Ganzo, Sanrenmu, etc.)

After years of having a large collection, I’m really happy to narrow it down to my current 31 fav

5 Traditionals
7 Small folders (3” blade, 2-3oz)
9 Medium folders (3.5” blade, 3-4oz)
6 Large folders (4” blade, 4-5oz)
4 Fixed blades

Most are Spyderco sprints and I carry and use them all. I expect some minor changes but don’t foresee any drastic buying/selling. I’m really happy with the current state of my collection.

My accumulation is around 1100 to 1200. If I include swords, axes, spears, etc..., then add another 100. Been in the knife game for approximately 43 years, and I've sold around 200 knives in that time. I accept that I'm a collector. No need to use them to enjoy them. If I buy a knife, it's because I like it. That doesn't usually change just because I've owned it for awhile.
