Your Knife For Social Gatherings ?

"Dress up" for me pretty much involves tucking my shirt tail in, and if I have to do that to go somewhere, then I figure I don't belong there in the first place. So...my choice of knives for social gatherings is the same as any other time- a SAK Alox Cadet in the left pocket & either a traditional or modern folder in the right pocket.

I usually Carry mine clipped in my inside pocket of my coat or my left pants pocket

Depends on the gathering. If it's social with people I don't know very well, then the Skeletool CX goes along.

It's not a knife, it's a multitool. Nothing to see here.

If it's friends, there are other options.

My social gatherings usually are rooted in the consumption of some sort of adult beverages so a Vic Wine Master goes in pocket.
With its 4 inch-ish blade it can do some food prep if need be as well.
Then another Vic with its multitool capabilities just for those "hero" moments when everyone is standing around wondering where to find a screwdriver... I got this.

Then there are those other social gatherings when only a Smatchet will suffice.
Those are my favorites.

Whatever I feel like and is legal to carry. I don't act like a fool and don't randomly pull a knife without reason in company. So I don't see a need to coordinate my carrying in a particular way.

Social occasions.....
either Spyderco Cat or the lil' Native.
Small, unobtrusive yet sufficiently sharp to handle most situations that may arise.

Any sort of Buck slipjoint sounds like the knife for you, especially the Rosewood models. Classy through and through, but not overpriced in the least.

I don’t run into many formal gatherings, but a few weeks ago I was at a friend’s wedding and brought along my GEC 48. I didn’t have to loan it, but I did have to cut a few items with it and actually received a compliment or two on it.

That's a beautiful blade!

That's pretty much how I am. I pretty much carry what I usually carry.

That's how I view my carry in social situations. I don't fancy anything up, because nobody I know cares about knives, or appreciates them in any way.

But TBH, the older I get, the less sociable I feel, and the fewer social gatherings I care to attend. I don't know if that's good or bad, it just is (or has been for the past several years). I don't like social gatherings where I don't know almost everyone, and even then, I've pretty much withdrawn from them. There's a big difference between being this way and being anti-social. I deal with people very well (my job requires it), but for now anyway, I prefer to spend my off-hours following my own pursuits. That could change someday, though.

I feel pretty much the same way that you do. My in-laws are just the opposite. With them everything has to be a party. The bigger, the better. A standard dinner get together for them can include 2 or more hours before the meal and maybe 3-4 afterwards. I am just not that social. Never have been. Two and a half hours is about it for me. Three, tops. After that I'm done.

As an eye care professional, I deal with people all day. The last thing I want to do is deal with a bunch of people I don't know during my free time. I get all the social life I want with my wife, daughter, two cats, church, and a few close friends. Sometimes, I'm happy with just a purring cat.

That's a beautiful blade!

Thanks! I’d wager it’s the prettiest knife I own, and there’s a bit of a surprise whenever the light hits the Bloodwood just right..

It’s hard to capture it well, especially with a cellphone. It took me about a week of carry to even see it for myself somehow, haha.

For formal occasions, I'll carry a small vintage penknife, maybe something in mother of pearl or ebony. For festive get-togethers like BBQs or crawfish boils, I carry my Party Knife!

Usually also an easily replaceable SAK with a less than sharp blade for a loaner.

I'll carry whatever, but if it's a clipper I don't clip it, just put it in a pocket.

In order of most to least “formal” while still being considered as such.

Mnandi without clip because it’s lightweight, elegant, and non aggressive looking.

Buck 301 Bladeforums 2018 because it’s just a great knife all around, doesn’t look aggressive, no “click” sound because it doesn’t lock, and it gets compliments every time it comes out.

Buck 501 with burlap micarta if the pants can handle the weight, because I think it’s a pretty knife.

Small Inkosi plain, which I also carry and use on a regular basis. Because, why not? They are great knives.

Around family is a different story. I usually carry something (or two.. or three..) in the pocket, along with one of several sheath knives I own. Everyone loves a good ‘ol fixed blade just because ya can, amirite?

Depends on the occasion and the "types" of people attending. (posted for amusement purposes)

If the occasion has a bunch of macho type guys outdoors or family gathering on Mom's side of the family - Buck 110 Auto with possibly a fixed blade of some sort in my back pocket if we are on a farm or in the woods.
If the occasion is a work function - Benchmade auto or Spyderco PM2.
If the occasion is with friends (girls night out) - SAK of some sort and/or Case sod buster or A.Wright & Son lambsfoot in my small bag.
Out on my own Ill have a Fallkniven F-1 on bag, Benchmade auto clipped to pocket, Sod buster or lambsfoot in pocket and most likely some sort of Leatherman in bag.
On a date Ill have something small in my pocket like a slipjoint but a Beretta 92 with reloads in bag.
