Your knives got burglarized. Starting over...

When I first got into knives I had one emerson, and all i would buy was benchmades, well all my benchmades got stolen, It sucked I had some really nice knives that are now discontinued, and a ton of autos, I probably had 4-5K in the collection. Since then I have seen the light and moved on to brands that meet my needs better, If what i have now got stolen I'd buy
1. Strider SMF
2.Strider SnG
3. emerson-cqc-7
Gonna add I was so sick that all my knives had got stolen I went and bought a small kershaw I forget the name, and a kershaw blackout and carried those for a few years, until I finally decided I would start rebuilding my collection.

I'd be carrying my Spyderco Caly 3.5 ZDP CF

1. Spyderco Sage 2
2. ZT 0200KW (Satin blade)
3. Victorinox Cybertool 34

Really would be a bummer - I've been considering a safe for a while now, and the thought of this is making me want to follow through with buying one.

I'd probably be carrying a Spyderco Southard if I was at work so I'd get the ones I like the most with the least overlap in use.

1. Spyderco carbon fiber Military (any one is good)
2. Spyderco C22 Michael Walker in CF/ZDP
3. Fiddleback forge Bushfinger

A Leatherman wave isn't a knife so that would go on the tool budget... :D

I'd have my large Sebenza with me.

So I need a CRK Nyala.
A Victorinox.
A Kevin Hoffman Backpacker.

I'm glad this is a theoretical question only.

This actually happened to me a few years back, lost a whole tote box of knives, almost all bucks.I started with some 110 folding hunters to rebuild my collection. It sucked .

This scenario is why I constantly consider selling mine now. I have quite a few knives that are no longer produced, and some that the company is no longer with us. Those knives have to be worth something, and seeing the prices some go for on Fleabay, they are. Considered getting a safe that is bolted to the floor, and keeping my stash within. But I live in an apartment, and not sure how they'd feel me drilling holes in the floor. It's a gated apartment, and one where no break ins have occurred since they've been here. But still, the thought of them all being stolen does worry me.

I would get a custom Buck 110, a custom Tony Bose stockman and a Randall fixed blade. That would cover about 10% of my present value.

I got a horrible feeling in my gut just reading through this thread. I am calling my homeowners insurance to make sure I have a rider for my "collectibles" Or maybe it should be under sports equipment. I'll look into it. I do keep a current list of knives I own, so it should help.

First to buy:
Victorinox Swiss Tool (large Multi-tool)
Case/Bose 2012 Lanny's Clip
Benchmade 730 variant of some sort with super-premium steel (Gold class, probably)

Strider SnG
Sage 2
Delica

Talk to me in a couple weeks and this maybe way different waiting on a few good ones I got on the way

I usually carry my BM 707 so I would start with

Small Sebenza 21 micarta inlays (1st anniversary present from my wife)
Hogue EX-01
Boker Pipsqueak

SAK Classic is always on me, and a Rescue Salt in the car. Buuuut...

Chances are my capital will be tied up elsewhere, ie replacing necessities. I would probably pick up an Opinel No. 8 for the interim. Probably pick up a SAK Huntsman for an outdoor knife. And a Mora. I'm a cheap date.

I did have some knives stolen from me recently.

True to my user name, they were four of these.
http://www.harborfreight.com/3-1-16-inch-stainless-steel-folding-knife-97668.html

They're pretty much bottom of the barrel folders, but I generally keep half a dozen of them or so in a folding clipboard and beat the snot out of them during the course of my work. When one gets too dull or loose to work with anymore I throw it in the clipboard and grab a fresh one and when I run out I sharpen, tighten or repair the whole batch and start over. I really do treat these knives poorly.

It seems one of the mechanics that my company hires out went through my clipboard and took a shine to those fancy folding knives about a week ago, (the four working ones anyway). This really pisses me off, but it's not worth bringing to the attention of management over $16 worth of knives, especially since as many as a dozen people may have had access to my truck in that time. The value doesn't mean that much to me and I've given them away for free before, but the fact that someone decided to go through my stuff and help themselves to what they wanted just really pisses me off.

I'll probably end up replacing them with the same thing. They're basically disposable knives, but they hold a decent edge and have a 3" blade with no serrations and for a knock around cutting tool that's what I want.

The odds are slim they would get all of my knives. I would be starting out with at least 10, since I'd have a lock-back/fixed blade pair on me, and a set in each (3) vehicle and a set in the tractor box, plus whatever was out in the shop being worked on. (The shop is secured better than the house - all metal building with metal doors and high-security locks. Kwiksets on the house. )

But in the spirit of the question, IF they managed to steal "everything", I would get:
Kabar 1226 (Little Finn) - small fixed blade
Buck 482 or 484 - general small lock-back
Ontario 18" machete - for brush around the building and fence lines

I'll assume I'm carrying my Izula, as I have it on me now. I'd get another Case large trapper, another Vic Farmer, and another Old Timer 80T (USA). That setup could hold me for a good long while.
