Your newest addition:traditionals of course!

It’s maybe a little on the light side, but I actually prefer that, as long as it snaps open and shut nicely, which it does.
Yeah the walk and talk on mine was good as well. I'm glad your revisit of bear and son went well. I have one of the queen big boy trappers that (I believe) they made for SMKW, and it's very nice for what it is and the price paid.

I visited a former neighbor and lifelong acquaintance in the hospital the other day, and found out something about him I either never knew, or had forgotten - that he was something of a knife collector. Bowie knives, mainly, but he said he always carried a pocket knife, until his condition got to the point where he couldn’t anymore. Anyway, he said “If I saw a knife I liked, I just bought it.”

I decided to adopt that attitude for a day, at least, and splurged on two knives:

I knew I was taking a risk, based on my previous experience with a Bear & Son stockman, but I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of both of these. The Barlow came pretty dull but is otherwise fine, and the stockman is much, much better than the walnut one I got before.
I may have spoken too soon about the quality of the stockman - I have since noticed a couple of issues which never should have passed QC. Both liners are bent and kind of wavy along the open edge of the blade well, one to the point where it rubs the main blade a little on closing, and one of the plastic covers is much thinner than the other - so thin that there is a pin crack at the spring pin on that side.

Still, the blades came nice and sharp, with no pitting or funky recurve grinds like on the first one I got. The main blade is a little weak on closing, but not worse than the much more expensive Case I recently purchased. All in all I like it, but wouldn’t buy another without handling it first.

The Barlow isn’t the most finely finished thing in the world, but has no real flaws at all that I can find. Thumbs up on that one

I beg my pardon , but I seem to have forgotten to mention this acquisition!

My first ever #85, a long coveted pattern that only landed this last week.

It may not be that NF Saber Grind EO in natural canvas or the same EO natural canvas spear with secondary coping blade I longed for many years ago but it does have that fizz for me, especially since it’s my first acrylic too!

( I may have some mod plans for this in the future 😏 )

Congratulations! One of my favorites and the first 85 I got too. Picked mine up a few years ago. I should carry it more. It’s probably the most commented upon knife I have — really draws attention from non knife people. Dead skunk is a terrible name for one of their coolest acrylics.

unclekurty unclekurty My first K’Roo arrived yesterday. Could be a cousin to your cool City Knife with the file worked spring and red liners. This is their Stout Sleeveboard Wharncliffe in some amazing jigged bone.
Congratulations Dave, that’s a beauty of a knife there. Is that kudu bone? It sure looks good with the jigging and how the bone absorbs the dye. I look forward to many more pictures.

I knew you were going to ask about the bone. The COA just says dyed jigged bone but it doesn’t look like any other bone I’ve seen. I’ll find out!

Cheers Dave. I quite like the name, maybe not so much the implication 🤣
I’m told they’re super slicey but I’ve yet to put it to work, after doing a little digging into that blade etch I’m a little reluctant to see it go 😂.
I’ve actually spent a few hours today fettling on the knife with some files 🙄. Will update with pics tomorrow in the light…

So the guy who organises my holiday job delivering bagged ice rang me...do you want a couple of days over the Easter hols? ....Of course...but I didnt realise he meant a couple days OFF.....saw this in a junk shop on the weekend...got the price down a bit...certainly cheaper than any other on the net 😁1000026856.jpg

Maybe it’s oosik? I was surprised how many mammals have a baculum…not that there’s anything wrong with that. We lost ours a couple million years ago. Turkeys are baculumless also.

Nice bit of “Unalived Mephitis mephitis” on yours there 🤣

Here’s my latest addition with it’s Latest Additions… Spent a few hours Saturday in and out of other jobs fettling up this 85 with an EO notch and some lined bolsters.
No pinched bolsters yet, not quite confident enough to attempt those.

Some brave additions there.... That EZ-Open notch must've taken some nerve ;) Great Acrylic that one, well worth landing- albeit bloody and reeky 🤣

Since you are a Master Mod can you please fix this one for me? I'd like the EZ-Open notch filled in with Stag, the pinched bolster can stay though....

😂 the corks look just the right diameter! You’ll have that filled in in no time.

Maybe empty a couple more bottles if you need to find the perfect cork, added bonus is you probably won’t be able to see straight to see if you’ve done a good job 👍👌

You know the notch was the most daunting aspect but once I was confident it was in the right spot it was just a matter of sticking to it and letting the sander shape it. The lined bolsters on the other hand racked my nerves all the way through!
