Did you know that the 2006 Canal Street Cutlery knives were made by Queen ? Queen was helping them out until CSC could get their own 'show' up & running. I think the first knives made by CSC came out in 2007.
This is info i have been told. Would be neat to hear from someone who actually knows and have it confirmed or corrected.

I read something similar on another forum. Erick chimed in and stated that CSC was using parts supplied by Queen when they first got started. Not sure if Queen actually did any work for CSC. Perhaps Erick will chime in here and clarify.

I also read somewhere that Red Hill Cutlery supplied their own dyed bone for their SFO's from CSC. I wouldn't swear by it but I'm pretty sure I read that somewhere when I was hunting down a Cannitler.

I've heard the rumor that Queen made the early Canal Street knives. I can't find the thread (It's about 10 years old), but the clarification was that Canal Street bought some tooling from Queen and used that for some of their first knives. This resulted in a number of the early Canal Street knives looking very much like knives made by Queen.

Frank, thank you for clearing this up. Somehow all these little 'insider' facts, especially who made what for whom sort of thing, make knife collecting more interesting. It's not just collecting knives but also collecting the history behind a company or a pattern or a character (Albert Baer or George Schrade come to mind) that gives some sense of meaning to owning a lot of knives.

GEC #66, calf roper jack in mammoth. Came at around a 60 degree angle, but the grind was spot on. I re-profiled it to 26 degrees and gave it a final edge at 38 inclusive. Perfect walk and talk. No blade play. I'm really looking forward to using it.

The odd thing about the Black Box Winchesters is that until recently "nobody" was bidding for them and they are nearly always new never used and in the original box which also looks as new. I picked up a few some years back and rarely paid over $30.
These are great reproductions of Traditional patterns and as well made as the best Queens. I have never used one because they look so perfect in their box. But i should because i bet they are also great users.
Does anyone know the steel ? 440C ?

Supposed to be carbon steel blades. Lots of stuff has gone up knife wise. I used to buy minty red old cross Vic Pioneers for $15-$25 dollars ea 3 years ago, now they are $125 and up.

Joe, all the research I've done suggests that the blades are carbon steel. In fact most of them specifically stated 1095. I know they don't seem like it is. Perhaps because of the high polish? My Coffin Jack that I sold did have a slight patina on it. Beyond that, I really can't say.
