Your newest addition:traditionals of course!

I have one black box Winchester. The blades are carbon steel.

(And, excuse my asking, I do not mean to be rude, but, how can you buy a pocket knife, carry it, and not know that the blades are prone to rusting?)

That's what I wondered Frank, although maybe less politely:D

You who are uncertain can always buy a citrus fruit and slice it up, that'll tell you if it's carbon or stainless  It may tell you if it's sharp or not too.....

the Kabar Copperhead , my first Barlow! the dog of course makes the knife along with good solid construction. Blade is usable sharp. The walk feels alittle gritty on the mainblade. Seems also to be somewhat blocky in hand...CSC made this one and their barlows overall look blocky as compared to a GEC or Queen. Will have to carry this a bit to determine if I would get a CSC barlow (been eyeing the tootsie roll). But this knife has lots of character that will develop with my use...and I like that kind of thing.

"Blocky" is a good description of the in-hand feel, and I agree. I'd say pleasantly blocky -- I like the chunkiness of this knife.

The Coppersmith Barlow was my first traditional knife, purchased just a few weeks ago, and I love mine. I can't wait to see how the patina develops on your bolster and shield!

Thanks Dadpool...saw your kabar barlow on the other thread, and looking good on the patina. Eventually they should turn greenish black, i think. My cabin up at 8700 ft southern colorado has hard water..so i may do a few washings near the pond, when I get up there.

Okay. So if I swore I wasn't going to buy any more new knives until the Forum knife goes live, do used knives count? :D

It's just a little thing.......

So.... Old is the new New eh Rachel?:D:D

Small, but it can't hide! Nice find though, doesn't qualify for your 'wreck' thread, far from it.

Regards, Will

I have no reason to like this knife other than it cuts, man it cuts.

It's a cheap Solingen carbon steel work knife, sheepsfoot obviously. It cost me the equivalent of 8 Dollars. The brand is lost to the internet, can't find it anywhere.

The wood is rough, pins stuck out a bit, there was some rust, it's not centered at all and there's bad blade rub. The spring shows daylight everywhere.
I've cleaned, oiled and sharpened it. This is the best it will ever look.

But it found it's way into my pocket for about a week now.

Today's mail included this 1975 Russell Barlow, which displaced my 1982 Case Barlow as the oldest knife I own:

Similar things happen to many of us knife knuts. Sometimes a knife just speaks to us, and we don't quite know why.

My new friction folder arrived today from custom maker Hiroaki Ohta .he's based in Tokyo Japan . the knife as a carbon blade with Nara wood handles . I have put this with a case peanut for size comparison ...
