Your newest addition:traditionals of course!

This also arrived yesterday. #613210. The color is "Midnight"

What I am finding interesting is the differences in bone dye. This knife has not a trace of lighter color showing through. Not even on the edges at the liners. Other dyed jigged and smooth bone I have shows light (bone) color through in some spots and the edges are completely bare of dye ie. like natural bone. Its as if the dye only absorbed a very shallow amount into the thickness. I wonder why? Is it intentional? Or, is it due to sanding and buffing?

Alan, bone varies in density. So it's kind of a crap shoot as to how much dye will be absorbed with any particular section of the bone. Because of this, many retailers will display each and every piece they have for sale (especially true with SFO's) in order for the customer to pick and choose to their liking. Being a time of a somewhat shortage of new offerings, we often have to take what we can get.
That said, I like your blacked out bone on the congress.

Thanks for that Bob. I suppose it makes sense too that the thickness of the piece of bone would effect the apparent depth of dye absorption? I have been a beneficiary of our excellent dealers who photo and number each knife. Got a really nicely colored 74 DLT SFO I was able to choose.

Then I got a Cougar clawed that was not individually pictured. This was toward the end of the run or shipment anyway. It is much, much lighter in color than the ones I have seen pictured here? I also noted that the smooth orange bone 74's that came later in the shipment to DLT were the very light and mismatched colors?

I wonder if later in the run has something to do with color? Just curiosity, not a complaint of any kind really.

And thanks. I do like this black bone congress. It's only the second single spring two blade I have.

I think what happens when a particular release offering is split into a couple different shipments is that they used the available material stock on hand for the first release and then later complete the order with materials from a different batch. That secondary batch is probably what I described above in that the bone varied in density from the first batch. Or the dye mix was a bit different. Much the same as wallpaper, flooring, paint, or whatever. For uniformity, you ideally want to complete the project with all the materials made at the same time.

Makes complete sense to me Bob. I wonder if there is a marketing strategy however. In other words, looking at DLT's recent smooth Orange 74's. All of the first batch were pretty well consistently orange on both sides and evenly colored. The second batch were virtually all mottled. I wonder if the strategy is to get the best examples out, especially to those who have made reservations? Then when folks catch up and want one, they "settle" for the second batch? That assumes that the evenly colored are more desirable, I guess?

That aspect of the conversation is way out of my thought process my friend. :D That would seem to be very speculative and subjective at the same time. ;)

You're right. I'm just kind of ruminating! Probably not the nest idea to speculate out loud:confused:

Another little guy was in the box that came yesterday. Although small, it's a lot of knife for the price!

Alan, nice #14, they are quite nice aren't they? When first released I was not a fan, wasn't a hater either but I usually carry a bigger knife. At night while at home I'd flip it over in my hand, compare to the #15 and just realized a wee bit smaller is not a bad thing:thumbup: in real life that #14 does everything it's bigger counterpart does just with less real estate in the pocket:cool:

By the way, I love Steven Wright:D:thumbup:

Added another Davison to my stable today. I LOVE this one. 3 3/4" and very slim, it carries small but has plenty of blade. Super snappy and smooth too

Paul, just catching up here. I agree with your thoughts about the 14. Honestly I ordered it to complete a purchase above x dollars to get 15% and free ship. It ended up costing me net like $40. But I was very pleased when I got it.

I typically like a bigger knife too. Not too big but like 4" or so. But it's really fun to have a little guy that stands up! Like a peanut or beagle I guess?

Great. You're a Steve Wright fan. I have a list of his funny quotes and plan to rotate through them. He's a very creative funny man..
