+1 More Info please!

Sure.
As far as I know:
She purchased it from a small store called Cuchillería Simon in Madrid.
Albacete style which I guess is the Spanish traditional design. It says alloy vanadium steel On blade. Store guy told her the handle is "cuerno de ciervo" which translates to deer antler.
It's got an odd locking mechanism. Can't really explain it so I'll post pics.

That's all I know
I knew my sister was going to Spain and I just said bring me a traditional Spanish knife.

Thanks
Andy

Huh? Something new to me? I've not seen this before. Thanks for, posting that info and pictures of the lock.

I received my modified Schatt & Morgan Heritage Cattleman in the mail today from Glennbad. What a pleasant surprise! The knife was basically a piece of junk because the nail nick on the sheepsfoot blade was hidden behind the spear blade making it impossible to open.

Here are a couple of pics before the mod.

I asked Glenn to turn it into a single blade and he did a fantastic job! Now it's a knife that I can use and enjoy. Reminds me of an Indian River Jack but with all steel construction and a different shield. Awesome!

Good idea Rick! Have to say those other blades looked odd and stumpy, and you can't even open them without the main being open? Ridiculous!

Glenn did some nice work for me on a 2 blade 73 stainless. You could open it OK but it was too bulky for my taste, now it's just right.

Rick, very nice blade indeed. I really do like that shield. How does the single blade sit between the bolster liners?

Here's mine, my first two French knives.

I have not handled an Opinel before. When I pulled open the blade for the first time the locking ring flew off!:eek: Rookie error I guess. After getting it back together I marveled at it's simplicity. Really cool.

One other thing about the Opinel, it has one of these on its backside:

I am reminded of a scene from a favorite movie of mine made in the '40s, Sahara, where Frenchie explains his way of kicking back and relaxing. Think 'Opinel' and enjoy.

(Apologies, could only find the remake.)

That's a fine-looking knife. Glenn did a very nice job with it. This is what I'm envisioning the upcoming GEC single-blade 54 looking like....fingers crossed!

The postal gods were kind to me today. Two horses and a weasel delivered to my front porch. :D

Pickle hasn't won me over yet, but I'm absolutely in love with the two types of striped wood.

Andy, that's a fantastic knife!:thumbup: I think a knife of that shape with that lock is called a navaja de muelles. Does it just have one notch in the blade tang, or are there several so that opening it produces a kind of ratcheting sound (carraca). How big is it? Seems like the toothpick pattern must be a descendant of that knife (and I always think that style Spanish knife might have come from Arabian knives brought in when the Muslims conquered Spain in medieval times). My daughter lives in Madrid, and she took me around the country when I went to visit a couple of years ago. I found cuchillerias in each of the cities we visited, and she helped me purchase some "sharp souvenirs" of my trip (I speak NO Spanish, so I depended on her to be my purchasing agent).

Congrats on the iconic French knives, Tom! I don't remember ever seeing a sheepsfoot Douk-Douk before (but I'm not always very focused anymore ); it's really cool! And the corkscrew Opinel is something you don't see every day either; superb!

Yessir. One of the DLT Mustangs that sold out while still in pre-order and well before I knew how much I liked the pattern. This one came to me all the way from a seller in Australia. Totally stoke to have found it. :)

Thank you. 5K QS
It's only got the one notch.
It's about 3 1/2" inches closed and about 7" open. It's scary sharp
I'm really loving it. Been carrying it everywhere for the last few days.
