Picked up an interesting Kutmaster today. Interesting blade etch, unfortunately somebody went bananas sharpening the main.

Spey spring rides high open, and the nailnick on the sheepsfoot is so shallow it hard to grab even with my thumbnail. But other than that its a solid piece. Anyone with info on the etch feel free to chime in:thumbsup:

Cool knife! I don’t have any info about the etch, but I’d keep an eye out, the Feds might come knocking on your door soon looking to reclaim the government’s property. o_O :D

After digging around in googleland, I'm fairly sure its a survival knife. Seriously, they put these ( and various other brands through the years) in a pilots parachute harness survival kit. I found out the kit is the SRU-16/P kit. There's some YouTube vids about them. But the one I watched had a different brand knife.

Just got this old Ulster Camp knife in the mail.
It's been around. Has a strange shield.
After a little mineral oil all blades snap well.
Been on a camp knife binge:)

Congrats, that's a nice looking camper. Do you think maybe someone replaced a missing shield with a circle of tin? Whatever it is, it's neat.

This arrived on Monday, Ebony handled Ettrick Pruner. For the money, about 37 GBP including delivery it's reasonable. An authentic and interesting pattern but it did need some 'work' before becoming acceptable. Raised spring on open need filling down with a diamond file, edge of tang needed squaring off to match the spring properly.

PLUS Very nice thick Ebony slabs, good pull and loud snap, good pin and bolster work, no blade play, centred more or less. Comfortable to handle.

MINUS The above work needed doing, wraparound spring not evenly cut off and shows big gap with liner. I always seem to get bent blades from this maker:rolleyes: and the grind was crude but it has sharpened up well with some effort.

OVERALL an appealing work knife and a historic and unusual pattern, feels good in the hand. Exacting customers may be uneasy about the sometimes crude or rustic finish, yet it is not expensive, so alright Wright.. Some of my own mods and work have improved it:thumbsup:
