Ooh! I like that. Is that a new shield?

View attachment 1069269 The Knives of Alaska DiamondBlade Summit has a Friction Forged D-2 blade which is hardened to 65-68 HRC.
Well, 'Friction Forged' was the bait, and 65-68 HRc set the hook. Had to look it up. Very interesting and new to me. This page not only explains the process, it also has a nice summary of steel metallurgy: http://www.mtnmengifts.com/content/...rged-knives/more-about-friction-forged-knives

How will you sharpen it, not that you'll need to very often?

This single blade 2014 Case CV 5 1/4" 3165 Folding Hunter with Yellow Delrin covers and Saber Ground blade came in yesterday from @knifeswapper at Collector Knives. The knife is tight and well put together with great fit and finish with no apparent gaps. The walk and talk is great with plenty of snap and to term a phrase not used here lately, "the blade is wicked sharp. It's interesting to note that the Case 65 pattern knives with saber ground blades used to have SAB stamped along with the pattern on the tang, i.e. 3165 SAB, but that's not the case on this knife.

Can you provide some info on that sharpening device? Is it homemade or sold commercially? Is the angle adjustable?

I've been thinking about something like it that works on the same principle as a Spyderco Sharpmaker but allows for using various flat stones.

It’s homemade. The base is Aluminum bar stock. The clevises are made from from split 1”X3” box channel, but I drill all the holes before I split the box. The turn buckles are made from R+L threaded tie rod ends and hex bar stock. A jam nut holds the adjustment. You don’t really need 2 stone holders. Just rotate the whole thing 180 degrees to sharpen the opposite bevel.

That's a "sharp" looking knife.

Thank you. It's just the kind of thing I've been looking for. It's what the Sharpmaker should have been. :)
