Kinda surprised this is my first 72 Lockback, and pleased with how much I enjoy it. Dunno why I was reluctant on the pattern until now, but I don't care it's that good.

That clip looks similar to the 43. Do you know if it is the same size? I’m assuming it is slightly smaller.

The #43 is 4¼", while the #72 is 3⅞".

That is the overall length, but I’m curious about the blade size in particular. For example, I’m pretty sure the clip on the 35 and the 44 are the same despite the 44 being slightly shorter in overall length (due to different handle lengths).

Joshua, I no longer have a #43, but the #42 is the same length frame and its clip blade is 3.39" from bolster to tip while the #72 I have measures 3.07"

Awesome, thanks! If I get lucky and land a 72 I think it will hit that perfect place for me between the 43 and the 74.

What's your take on it?

I picked up one of these and one in the red jigged bone. I like them both but prefer the red jigged version. Great hefty feel in hand, nice W&T on both, and both arrived sharp enough and with good finish - although the jigging on the red bone, to me, feels more refined than the sawcut on the brown.

Doesn't impede function, but on both examples I received, the fit left something to be desired. Brown sawcut has a minor gap between spring and liner and some questionable hafting on the mark side. The blade centering on all blades (except the spey on the red jigged bone version - it's centered) is all over the place, yet, without any apparent rubbing. What's kinda odd is that each knife has one blade with a little side-to-side play and one that has none, but it's a different blade on each.

I would really have preferred them to charge a bit more and dial in the fit more precisely and consistently.

My thoughts are similar to yours...it's a solid knife, with a relatively solid fit and finish, but a lot of room for improvement. The action could be more crisp, it is somehow sluggish on my example. Hafting of the scales is so-so, and blades could be finished better. Despite the fact that this knife is advertised as USA made, it seems comparable to Chinese production - I can't prove it, but it almost looks like it was assembled from imported parts. Sadly, the jigging is not what I was hoped for. Anyway, a "good" knife for the price.
