Your Opinion of Sanrenmu Knives

this thread piqued my interest until i couldn't help myself. i ordered a handful of SRM models last week and am very anxious to get my hands on them. if the quality is anywhere near what people claim, i will be a very happy camper
....if it is not, i will.....uhh.... never love again???
:D:D

OK here are some pics I just took and posted in the other current SanRenMu thread about the 710 in particular. As I said in that thread, I definitely got my money's worth. I played around with the plain 710 and wanted to EDC it today but couldn't bring myself to it. I hate stainless steel handled folders because my hands always start to sweat and slip on them.
Again, I wasn't expecting Sebenza quality, but IMHO these (the models with G10 scales in particular) do compare to some of the Chinese built Spydercos I've handled so far. I think this is fair to say considering some of Spyderco's models are made by SRM according to Sal. (Don't worry Sal, I'm a lifelong Spyderco fan so nothing's changed there! I just had to see for myself what all the hype's been about!).
I hope this isn't too pic intensive but here are some shots I just took for reference.

i like that little 401.

is it about the same size as a bladetech mouse or spyderco chicago?

My knives came today - a regular SanRenMu 710, a black 710, a 401, a Navy K502 and a Bee L05. The hype around these got the better of me so I thought I'd sample a few. I agree with 00Max00 that these 710s aren't going to affect Sebenza sales at all, or replace other lower-cost local manufacturer's sales (except maybe the Bee). Both of my 710s open and close smoothly and all 5 knives lock up tight,. The blade on the silver 710 is a bit off-centered when closed but both blades came shaving sharp. Milling and fit and finish (F&F) are decent on both also.
The little 401 is ok also, no blade play and decent F&F. The Navy is also ok but the Bee is by far the best of the bunch for me.
As mentioned before, these will be beaters/loaners/in-car emergency bag back-up blade, but I think I'll keep the Bee as my personal occasional beater when I don't want to risk damaging my better blades. IMO I say occasional because the blade is 3" long and I normally walk with sub 3" blades so I likely won't walk with it too often.

Final thoughts, these knives are good for what they cost, some definitely better than others, with the Bee being my favorite. That said, they won't be knocking my main EDCs: my Caly3, G10 Dragonfly, or Mini-Grips out of my pockets except for on the above mentioned situations where a beater is required. When I get around to taking some pics I'll post some up.

Exactly!
As I'm building a BoB, I placed a order for 8 various. Will play with them, tweak them, experiment with them.
Load the truck, the fishing gear, the camping, the SHTF gear with them.
But each situation has a "real" knife as well that I'm 100% confident in.

This evening, had to go out in slacks to a "not the best" neighborhood.

What ended up in my pocket, CF Military.

It is what it is :)

It's my understanding that "Navy" and "bee" are different companies from Sanrenmu, am I wrong?

Hey scotchleaf I'm not sure but I think it was mentioned already in this or the other current SanRenMu thread.

Not sure about those two mini folders as I've never handled either. It's about a mm longer than a Ladybug though, if that helps.
I like the looks of it but it's difficult to open one-handed, and I'm always paranoid about using such smooth handled knives, especially ones with no jimping or choils, etc, to help prevent your hand from sliding onto the blade.
It cost $6.45US though so I'm not complaining!

Exactly "Exactly"! LOL. I will continue to EDC my regular, proven blades. Because I'm so anal retentive about my knives and gear I have a hard time leaving my good lights, knives, etc in my BOBs in the car. I prefer having them safe and sound in my home office where I spend most of my time so I can look at and caress them at will! LOL
I'm not concerned about leaving these in my various gear bags and forgetting about them until (God forbid) I need them.

It's not a bad knife, not fantastic, but not bad.
Big enough to beat up on a construction site.

Yeah I'm a Tip Up carrier myself. I'm sure it can be modded (drilled/tapped) to fasten the clip around the lanyard hole for tip up carry. I'm honestly impressed with the build quality on the Bee L05 for the money spent. I haven't put it through it's paces so don't know how the steel will hold up to rust, cutting tasks, etc but the lock up is spot on, handles properly smoothed out, no side-to-side or up-and-down blade play at all.
The Navy K502 has noticeable but not bad up-and-down blade play. It also has the thinnest frame lock mechanism (or whatever you call it) of the knives I got today.

See, I'm Building a Bob, a Range+stuff not in the BoB, a First aid, a personal hygiene, a clothing Bag/bags. Plus a Bug out Box in the truck for the biggies, think camping, with all the saws, axes, ratII type knives etc.
All will have beater knives, and serious knifes.
I see nothing wrong with that and if the beaters can fill the void and leave me $ for MREs to distribute, all the better.

Ok, I cannot resist any longer. I'm ordering a couple bee / enlan knives tomorrow. Thank you for posting the pics!

I can't decide which ones I want to order.

Scratch that. Not until I find a site that takes Visa.

Wow - Sanrenmu has scored the most amazing free publicity here.
I am not going to comment on the quality of the knives or the politics - they have both been covered pretty well.

I actually have a Sanrenmu story to tell.

About a year ago I found them advertised by a China based seller and ordered one out of curiosity. The blade was a bit stiff so I oiled the moving bits and pushed up on the thumb stud. The blade came open and my greasy thumb covered in mineral oil went over the stud and onto the blade - ended up with a badly sliced thumb.

In disgust I gave the knife to a friend. A couple of days later we met for lunch and he showed me his badly sliced thumb. Guess how he cut it? He gave the knife back. We are still trying to identify a mutual enemy to gift it to.

What is the moral of the story? No idea but it's a good story.

Send it to me. I'll pay for priority mail to the Philippines. ;)
