The top 5 production survival/outdoor knives I own:

a BK7, Ontario-RAT TAK or Kabar 1277 next to a Victorinox OHT or Leatherman Wave

....and a Eriksson Mora #2 ;)

I find it odd that the Mora is not mentioned more. This blade was WORSHIPPED a few months back on this board - and now it seems the Fallkniven has taken favor. It makes me wonder if, for some, this is fashion over function.

Wouldn't mind one of the new Spyderco Dayhikers for sh!ts and giggles...

I'm pretty sure people have been singing praises for the Mora for more than a few months! ;)

I don't want to derail the thread at all, but the Mora is a great knife, and beats many others that are more expensive. Dollar for dollar, it's a huge value. But none of that means that there aren't other good blades, and better blades, at higher price ranges.

'Survival' probably means you've just got the one knife to perform lots of duties that knives weren't meant for. Some folks just don't feel that fuzzy about batoning a stick tang.

A Mora knive is a "survival" knife for mom and dad taking the kids on a day trip by the lake (or on it if winther). They can cut oranges, gut the obligatory 2" fish the ever so proud kid manages to catch, slice some sausage, some fishing line and make some bark tree boats in summer etc. If the knife breaks or the kids gets tired it is an hour back home. The survival in this situation is that the family stays happy all day. The back up for this is most likely a half dull paring knife from the kitchen back home.

A Fällkniven is a "survival" knife for those who jump from a, not that perfect anymore, fighter jet over nowhere and has that only edge tool to take him (or her) back to civilisation. Usually in Sweden that means that the pilot can use it to cut wooden figures or just do nothing while waiting for the CASEVAC. Abroad and during wartime there is a difference though. The survival in this situation is that the persons life can depend on it and that he most likely has no backup.

Not saying that a Mora knife (or clone), that about every person in Sweden has at least five, is a bad knife but it is two different situations. The first can be in the forest close to home and it is 2 km to the nearest house, the second can be in the middle of the winther or somewhere in Bornes jungle and it is 200km to the nearest house.

I could make do with a Mora knife but having used a F1 I would most likely break the Mora in pieces when trying to do F1 things with it.

Well, every time I see another Becker (I only have a BK7), I fall in love. I'd love to get a Necker and a Companion.

As well as a RAT, Fallkniven, and Ranger. I've given up hope on Busse sadly.
