Yep. Also noticed that many of the knives mentioned were at one time production knives but can hardly be called that now. Busse, Swamp Rat, Becker... Not exactly "production" knives IMHO. At least not today. As you can see, I'm guilty of posting them as well.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Bob Dozier or Gene Ingram knives.

While the operator is on my top 5, I sadly don't own it, nor do I see much hype about it around here. Have you used yours much?

I just got mine last week and I like it a lot. It is a great backpacking knife because it is built very strong and is very lightweight. I split a little wood and the knife was comfortable and did great. The handle is a good size and the knife feels great in my hand. I also like the sheath a lot because it has so many options and a very thin profile.
This knife is definitely a user and I cant wait to take it on a backpacking trip.

Swamp Rat Howling Rat LM
Swamp Rat M6
Leatherman Wave
Haven't owned any others that I would consider for survival use. Not that they can't be used for such, they just aren't a go-to knife for me. That being said, I would trust any Busse family knife between 4-8 inches.

Don't need a prybar. Let's see.

Machete - 20
Fiskars - 30?
Mora - 11
Good SAK - say Huntsman - 25

That adds up to $86. You're saying I couldn't assemble a collection for $860 that doesn't have twice the functionality? Do you *really* want to say that?

1. Victorinox
2. Spyderco
3. Busse
4. Mora
5. any decent machete.

for specifics, oht and pioneer rock, delica and manix are cool, SH, FBM, HR, craftsman and m2k, tramontina, ontario,...

I would take my CS trailmaster Bowie (san mai) based on results.
I am surprised at the number of people willing to risk ridicule by mentioning CS knives (I guess that includes my self, but at least my excuse is that I would not recommend any of the other knives I have taken into the wilds).
