Your urban EDC, what do you tote?

Sadly, I don't often EDC anything more than my Butterfly Wallet, Keys (with Leatherman Brewzer), and iPhone 4 that is just about worthless with the new iOS. Carrying knives is a bit of no-no where I usually go everyday, and has been for most of my life unfortunately. When I do carry in urban environments, it's usually a SAK Spartan, Benchmade 586, or SAK Classic. My Mini-Grip is my travel folder for most places domestic, otherwise it's a SAK Climber. I also tend to not use pocket clips...it seems to weird people out to see a knife sticking out of my pocket in urban areas. Not exactly the best way to make a first impression.

North America is getting more rigid and security conscious. So it is easier for me to justify a SAK or multi tool in an office building, or other areas of public scrutiny. With that said, I will still grab an Izula 2 or four inch folder now and then in town. I just back it off when I deem it appropriate.

Valid points. Yet Anon isn't a terrorist group, 99% of us are peaceful. Most people in Anon are known to the government just for buying the mask. I don't have anything against the law enforcers that do their job, it is the ones that you hear about on the news for brutality and such. I don't just flaunt my mask everywhere, if I am asked what I have in my bag I will happily show anybody. Also, I don't try to be careful about not carrying anything illegal.

I am quite interested in this piece of your edc setup and how you use it. So you "...don't just flaunt my mask everywhere....", but

Mainly for the lulz. I love the look on people's faces when I walk around with it on.

Also, you claim to be "....known by the government..." just for having bought this item? They track that stuff? Like some kind of registry?

I sure hope they don't try to do that kind of thing with pocket knives like the SAK I edc! Then the sheeple will have won.

I live in NYC, which means that carrying a gun is totally out of the question (not that I would anyway); and of course it goes without saying that I'm not going to be dressing deer or bushwhacking through razorgrass, so I don't require a humongous fixed blade to get me through the day, either.

Ultimately, I find that a small folder (3" and under blade), a AAA-powered keyring light and a decent watch are all I need on my person at any given moment:

Mind you, sometimes I get a bit more gung-ho if I'm up at the county house for the weekend:

(I sub out the Beast for my low-light Emerson CQC-8 when I'm feeling particularly tacticool.)

But even then, I find that these three basics are all I need (knife, flashlight and watch).

Regards,
Adam

Okay, the way I worded that made no sense. I apologize for that. I do wear it once in awhile, but not into stores and other business places. Yes, a lot of the people that buy items such as Guy Fawkes Masks, handcuff keys, tactical gear, etc. are on a temporary watch list. After about a year though is when the "watch" ends. I hope to God that our SAKs aren't monitored, if they were I would have the FBI at my door for all the one's I bought  But can we stop filling this up now? If you have another question/rebuttal PM me.

2 I carry mostly. Spyderco Manix and Kershaw Leek.

I cant believe none of you carry rubber (medical style) gloves, especially in an urban environment! You never know when your going to have to help someone sick, it might not even be blood, or when you're goin to have to touch something nasty.

I carry a pouch on my belt with 2 pairs and if I know I'm going to need a pair I'll stick a third in my back pocket so I still have the other 2 pairs.

This is a whole new part of an edc setup, to me, at least, and, like I said, I'm fascinated. In the true spirit of an edc discussion let me ask some more questions.

So, as part of your EDC carry, is it something you use everyday, just like a SAK or Altoids? Or is it more like "urban emergency/survival" type gear? Like a first aid kit? Do you wear it like when you are walking to your school or driving to the mall and stuff? Or just to organized techno-anarchist events? Do anarchists have organized events?

It's because skin is a pretty decent barrier. I wash my hands as soon as I commute into work. Now that I live in the suburbs I feel violated whenever I take the subways. NYC subways are such a dirty form of transportation.

This, plus a mini bottle of hand sanitizer.

That's a pretty good idea, actually. If you ride the L in Chicago like I do daily...you are gonna touch something nasty. I've actually thought about keeping like a pencil or stick handy just to remove garbage from the seat I would like to sit on.

All it takes is that nick on your finger from fondling your knives all day, or that tiny little break of skin from a hangnail. I would change that school of thought and also, as a medical professional, feel compelled to tell people here that you aren't protecting yourself by doing nothing to protect yourself. No offense.

Of course washing your hands and hand sanitizer is a great idea. I'm certainly not saying to glove up when you get on the subway. But, I don't want people on here thinking their skin is "good enough" when it comes to bodily fluids and other nasty substances. Recipe for disaster.
