Zero Tolerance 0392 BWBRZ!!

It's been suggested before only to be shot down with the idea that if a lottery was established flippers would find a way to "stuff the box" putting in lots of entries. With as many 0392's as have hit the market since the last release it's clear the current system is doing nothing to hinder flippers, so to me that's not a defense of a particular system.

There will never be a perfect system. Even time of day, the last two releases have been during the week and middle of the day, lots of people no doubt missed out on them because they are at work.

Personally I think a lottery is an easy idea, everyone gets an even chance, with lots of notice, no issues with computers, server loads, dealers selling more than they actually have, people having to take time off work etc. If someone wants to have 10 of their friends put in for the lottery so what. If they really wanted to address that just require a $200 deposit up front, that will eliminate 99% of friends and family stuffing the box, and any fake entries.

My guess is that a lottery is far more work than ZT wants to do. It's not like an Emerson lottery where there are a few dozen knives.

I for one am not a fan using a lottery, it is not any more equitable than the systems in place. People will still flip if the market is there. The knives are being flipped because they can be, not just from evil flippers. The average guy knife buyer is able to score two LE knives, for $400, likes the knife but would love to have it for free, sell one for $800 if he can, and keep the other for free. This is has been the scenario in the cult wine arena for a long time. As the release price and scarcity goes up so does the price on the secondary market. It is just a knife, if you get one at the release price great, if not find one at a price you are willing to pay or buy something else, at the end of the day they all cut and slice.

Can you fathom how much work it would be to take a $200 deposit from (WAG here) 2,000+ people trying to buy 300-500 LE knives?

It would be a logistical nightmare.

I should have been more clear that I've dealt with KELAMA as well and am certain that he was just stating an opinion rather than crapping on the "luck" of others, in this case. ;) His comments just made me think of some of the other comments that seemed driven by the frustration of trying and failing to secure this version of the knife at "retail price."

And, yes, it only takes one to pay the exorbitant price "to start the ball rolling." One person's willingness to pay that price convinces a number of others that they will HAVE to pay that price to get one...and off we go. I realize it cannot be helped, because, if someone wants it bad enough, they have the freedom to pay as much as they want.

Hannibal- I actually didn't mean to come on here and crap in this thread. I was just stating my opinion. I really don't have a problem with somebody coming on BF and making a decent profit. I was just chapped, because immediately after the first run was released, there were a couple of member's asking $900, the first couple of days after the release. I felt, that that was just a little over the edge, & insulting...I mean, come on- don't be crapping in your own back yard...if you want $900, list them on eBay.

I personally liked the bronze hardware, but only really because I like the sheen of it in contrast to the black handles. I know you and I have our differences in taste though, and that's more than alright :D
Keeps us from going after the same knife and getting in each other's ways too often as well ;)

The sad thing is that anything that is limited in quantity and not limited in buyers will become apt for "scalpers" who want to make a profit off of the public desire for the product/service. Most of us here feel that pain when we get any custom knife from a popular maker, even here on the forums, since the price can exceed double what the knife actually sells for new. If people are willing to pay it, then it won't stop either.

I do wish we would see less of this baltantly exploitative behavior on the Exchange though.

Coleman- I really liked the look of the first run, with the blue hardware and raw titanium, a lot! This color scheme, for some reason just didn't do it for me. But I totally agree, Coleman, everyone has their own unique tastes, & that is all that really matters: what YOU like.

I'm not saying that this is what you are doing, KELAMA, but I will say that it feels like some people in this thread are trying to convince themselves that they didn't need/want the knife after "missing out." I'm sure I've done that, at times, to deal with disappointment. However, I missed out on the 0392 because I hesitated and didn't realize how quickly that they would go. But I didn't then take the time to tell those who did get one that the knife is stupid and ugly.

I did hope that some of those folks who got one but decided that they didn't like it would sell it at a "reasonable" price. But I've only seen one sold for less than $500 here, even though the original price was $375. In one sense, if we don't want people to do that, then we cannot reward that behavior by buying them! But every single one that I saw posted here was purchased at $500 or more. I personally refused to pay more than $450 for the 0392 on the secondary market, which is why I don't have one. If people decide to pay the exorbitant, secondary-market prices, then people are going to post the knives at those prices.

I did happen to get one of the 0392BWBRZ, because I do like the look of it, and because I wanted to at least hold one in hand to decide if it "fits me" or not. We'll see, I suppose. In any case, I do agree that we will start to see these posted for $600+ on this forum this weekend. To me, it doesn't really matter if you intended to keep the knife or not. You're a "flipper" or "scalper" if you ask $600+ for the knife just a few days/weeks after paying $400. Ask a reasonable price for the knife (that covers PP fees, shipping, insurance...and dinner), or be willing to trade it for something else that maybe the other person was able to snag at a good price (to even the exchange and benefit both of you). I will never forget when @poolhustler sold me my 0801USN at a remarkably reasonable price because he knew I would give it a good home and wasn't just looking to flip it.

Hannibal: This is a very interesting observation, & perspective, & very well may be the case. I was so amped, before & during the first release, but unfortunately, due to my working environment, I wasn't able to be on the internet that morning...it was witnessing the aftermath (the mass listings in the sales forum), that was the big turnoff for me, & possibly ignited my negative feelings toward the 0392.

BTW- I actually loved the way the first run looked; but for some reason, I'm just not a fan of the design of this run. On a positive note, I have an extra $900 in the bank because of it! :D And, I spent all morning out surfing on this second release, instead of in front of computer, getting frustrated.

Congratulations on the member's who landed one of these.

Couldn't help myself.
Here he is with his brother.

Slightly lighter detente than the original, but also a little smoother. I love it.

Just got mines today, the detent is much much harder to actuate than the ZT 0454. Now I'm not so sure I want to use it as my EDC :(

I got small hands and they get sweaty sometimes... just got the knife in and I'm actually having difficulty flipping the knife out, dunno if the detent is suppose to be this strong or not.

These 0392s' detente are the strongest of all my flippers. I broke in my finger with the 0392. There is a variation in detente strength with different samples, and my 0392bwbrz is actually lighter. I don't own any other 2015 ZT models, but stronger detente seems to be the trend for ZT flippers.

To those with a strong detent flip it a lot. A co-worker and I were lucky enough to get the first version. His detent was a lot stronger than mine was. After flipping a lot it is much better now. Still stronger than mine but he is happy with it.

The detente strength makes these very good flippers, but ZT did not chamfer the edges of the flipper tab. I think the pressure being applied to the small corners is what causes the pain. That can easily remedied though.

- Make sure you are not touching the framelock when you are trying to flip it. That's an issue that a lot of people first have.

Half of me was hoping I would hate it, so that I could make a profit off it. However its like my ZT 0562 but better. Looking forward for other 0392 models.

Those having problems flipping the knife, make sure you don't apply pressure to the lockbar, and lightswitch the flipper. I've seen some people try pushbuttoning the flippers on knives like the 0454, 0452cf, and 0392, and these flippers flip great with a lightswitch technique but will break your fingertips if you try the pushbutton.

The flipper tab on my xm-18 are slightly soften on the corners so I did the same with this. Helps a little.
