Zero Tolerance 0427 LE

The design might not be for everyone and I get that but look at it from the other angle.... all this new cool tech will have the chance to trickle down to the production catalogued items that the lot of you find more up your alley.

I played with this at Blade quite a bit and I agree with those who said it needs to be handled to be appreciated. I can see some of this cool tech making it into new awesome knives. I think maybe instead of picking on what you might think is "ugly", maybe try looking at all the features and see how the tech in this knife could be used in future knives. Keep in mind that this is also a production company using all this.

One of my favorite parts was the way it was idiot proofed so you were less likely to put pressure on the lock bar like a normal frame lock. Look closely at how the CF moves with the lock bar. Pretty neat stuff.

Yup, some of the tech is neat. None of it looks to actually improve performance, but it's neat. And when it filters down to affordable, attractive knives I may care. We are, however, discussing this particular knife. Which looks like a jar of smashed buttholes.

As am I by showing the pictures with comentary. I am also offering something to further the conversation.

Sure you could take it in that context or you could choose to do the latter and be constructive but hey whatever juices your lemons.

Cheers,

Justin

Technical innovations are great but aesthetics do matter to many - mothers aside.

They've sold them a couple of different ways. They've tried doing it on the ZT website, twice I think. They've chosen particular dealers through which they've sold a few. Both mechanisms have had some issues, but only because the volume is so high. Your best bet is to subscribe to the Kai/ZT newsletter. You'll be notified of the time and method of any Limited Edition sales. Alternatively, the information makes on to the forums pretty much as soon as ZT announces it.

Thanks for the reply. So even if you're sitting waiting at the right moment for it to come live, chances are slim? I assume then they get reposted here at a surcharge? lol

Jim Skelton have a hand in that thing ? I'll stick to my older zts , and hope this not where the lineup is going . Some of us still use our knives . My hand is getting blisters looking at that thing .

You made a clear attempt to shift the focus from the aesthetics of this particular knife to the excitement of potentially getting cool knives in the future. That's definitely one way the conversation could evolve and an interesting point to consider. I do, however, stick with my statement that, within this thread, we're discussing the specific merits and what we enjoy and don't about this particular knife.

It does NOT benefit anyone, particularly the manufacturer, for us to pull punches in our criticism. Then they can avoid that mistake in the future. ZT makes an incredible product, not to my taste generally but inarguably high quality, but this is an unattractive knife. Which generally doesn't matter much to me, but if you get it ugly enough it's not something I can forgive, particularly not with so much competition as there is today.

My wife said it's the ugliest knife she's ever seen. I can't disagree. Looks more like a QrtrMstr knife than a ZT...
I agree but I'm sure it will make someone very happy. :)

No matter how ugly we might think the knife is. I still believe it will sell out in no time . Reading a little more into it it's cpm154 and ctsxhp at the cutting edge . I like ctsxhp as much as the next guy but it's not something to write home about IMHO. I'm happy zt is willing to take risk and take a gamble on new designs but again I hope they stick to their roots as well.

I for one wish zt would do more with RJ Martin .

The 0427 certainly strays away from the more "standard" look. As such, I'd expect it to solicit stronger opinions both for and against. But for something that's a Limited Edition piece and candidate for "Knife of the Year", I think stretching the knife design palette is only appropriate. It certainly makes for a more memorable piece. When I first saw the 0427, the thing that stood out most to me was the oddly shaped blade as well. After handling it a bit more, I started appreciating more how it fit in with the rest of the styling of the knife.

And beyond the outward appearance, there are several other innovations that have gone into it. The TDS isn't visible, but it is a neat component that allows for better detent tuning, as well as solving the issue of people pressing on the lockbar and preventing themselves from opening their knives. The lock is also an interesting new design. Like the sub-frame lock in some ways, it's a separate piece from the main handle that is attached on the inside of the handle scale. But unlike the sub-frame lock, it blends into the styling of the handle itself, as bad_juju pictured above. The integration of the backspacer and handle is also impressively seamless. And with the exception of the two screws holding the CF insert in place, there is no other visible handle hardware on the non-lockbar side. And, of course, the milling/machining work and detail is most impressive.

i'm a big dmitry sinkevich fan, would snag one of these if i could
i know it's not for everyone but i would be very surprised if it wasn't as difficult as ever to score this ZT LE

Yes, to both. It is safe to assume that there will be many times more people trying to buy than knives available. Assuming they go the limited dealer route (usually five, if I recall correctly), it would be smart to set up an account with each of them. You'll have at least 24 hours' notice of who they are. That'll speed up your checkout time. Keep in mind that there will be people who think they've scored one, only to find out at the end of the checkout process (sometimes even after checking out) that they didn't make it. That's the way it goes when there are a couple of thousand people (a guess) trying to buy 250 (another guess) knives at the same time.

Within a week of the sale there will pieces in the Exchange ("This is a catch and release. It's just not for me, blah, blah, blah") going for 10-20% premiums over the original price. Good luck.

More like within 30mins

Yup!! ^^^
Also, the same guys selling them are the whiny bitches trying to buy 6 of them and having computer issues. Cursing ZT and the way they sell the LEs. Swearing off ZT forever.......then all 6 are on the Exchange a week later....for 30% over list. And OF COURSE........please pay F&F only!
Ugh

They do not go to any dealers. You have to try to buy from ZT directly. You may purchase only one Limited Edition knife (of any one model) per household.

Well, it is ugly. I don't care if the blade was heat treated on Neptune and quenched in unicorn piss, it looks ridiculous.

Sorry if we hurt your feelings:(

That was a great quote. I am sure ZT and Dima are really upset that the Bladeforums ZT hater trolls all think this one is ugly. It is a decidedly low-class bunch that trolls here.

I don't like every design I see, but I do have enough class to not be a total jerk, but for those that enjoy being said, carry on!

I enjoyed handling this knife during the evening drinking and knife-play sessions. The technology is very interesting; there is a lot that does not meet the eye about the knife.

I took some of my typically poor quality Blade show phone pictures.

I would suggest investing in a proper camera sir. Your pictures are almost as awful as said knife!
