Aboot the Knife :

The Gods At Kai said:
A collaboration between Zero Tolerance and Dmitry Sinkevich, the Limited Edition 0427 achieves something few folders have: It opens equally well with the built-in flipper—and with the hole in the blade. Sound simple? It’s not.

Balancing quick and easy flipper opening action with precise manual opening is a complex manufacturing issue. The 0427 succeeds in striking that exacting balance thanks to our new Tuned Detent System™ (TDS). TDS puts the detent ball on the front scale of the knife in an inset steel plate. This plate enables us to “fine tune” the detent so that it's detent locks perfectly—not too heavy, not too light.

And that’s just the beginning of the high-performance features of this forward-looking knife.

The blade features our Composite Blade Technology to join two steels in one blade. In this case, we put CTS XHP on the cutting edge and CPM154 on the spine with two-tone satin grinds and black PVD on the upper. CTS XHP is a high-carbon, high-chromium stainless steel that can achieve high hardness. Its fine carbide distribution enables ZT to produce an extremely sharp cutting edge.

The handle is machined titanium with burnished bronze PVD coating and carbon fiber inserts. The 0427 also features a titanium lock with hardened steel lockbar insert for a secure blade lockup. The clip is machined from titanium and bronze PVD coated to match the handle. The aluminum backspacer is integral to the knife and extends to form part of the handle.

The Limited Edition 0427 comes with its own Certificate of Authenticity from Zero Tolerance and Dmitry Sinkevich and will be available sometime in 2017.

That was a great quote. I am sure ZT and Dima are really upset that the Bladeforums ZT hater trolls all think this one is ugly. It is a decidedly low-class bunch that trolls here.

I don't like every design I see, but I do have enough class to not be a total jerk, but for those that enjoy being said, carry on!

I enjoyed handling this knife during the evening drinking and knife-play sessions. The technology is very interesting; there is a lot that does not meet the eye about the knife.

I took some of my typically poor quality Blade show phone pictures.

Because companies see such benefit when folks won't voice their honest opinion about blades. I'm not sure what your goals are when you participate in the forum, but one of mine is to get knives that I like. Part of that is simply gathering information on models that I might like, but a big piece of it is to provide feedback on models that come out. If you think, "This is too ugly for me to buy it," isn't extremely valuable feedback for KAI you're dead wrong. And that means more knives that I like better.

I think fans (not confused with fan boys ) but fans of a knife company get more emotional than the actual company does over certain designs or ideas.

Also just because a knife is ugly means nothing . Look at spyderco they make ugly knives but it's the design and egos make it a great knife.

I don't like the looks of this knife ,but if I held it and it felt good and performed good I'd consider it . Well not this model . Personally I have a limit I spend on factory knives limited edition or not and this one is over that limit . However if a toned down cheaper version came out and the performance was there id consider it .

It's not the knife.for me but I could definitely see how someone things it's very cool. Has a sci Fi far out design that seems like it would still cut nicely. I think sebenza are ugly. There's still a ton of folks that love em. To each their own.

Too ugly for me is fine. If you think, though, that ZT or any company gets any valuable input from these forums you are dead wrong. The few knives they sell in the LE arena are just the formula one cars, the Camrys and Malibu's feed the kids.

And, if you can't tell the difference between constructive criticism and hater-boy ranting, then there isn't much I can do to help you understand.

You don't think companies look at the largest community of knife enthusiasts in the world, one that's publically available and they can browse for free, and don't think to pay attention to the reception their product gets? This place is an amazing resource for any cutlery manufacturer. Those that aren't paying attention to it are making a vast mistake.

I actually had a good laugh at that, mate. Really good show.

I'm pretty certain the people at Kai USA don't lose too much sleep over the BF General community. And you're really inflating how much of a slice of their customer base resides and posts here.

I think the whole Elmax sucks started on here . I think that had a pretty negative effect on them.

That's because they sell the majority of their product at Walmart. Absolutely nothing wrong with that, by the way, but big money by volume is there. But we're now talking about the ZT line and this place is a giant, free focus group. If you don't take advantage of that kind of resource when all it costs is a few man hours to have someone keep half an eye on it you don't deserve to be in business.

If ZT doesn't at least keep an eye on this forum, they are missing out on free feedback. I was just hiking with a guy today has a few cheap Kershaws and mentioned he was considering getting a ZT until he saw something negative about that model on this very forum (he doesn't frequent this forum, it just popped up on Google) before I set him staight on ZTs build quality. So even if KAI doesn't monitor the forums, I suspect they affect the thinking and buying of people, even casual knife buyers.

A far as the 0427 goes, it looks like they have brought an entirely new level of absurdity to their LE lineup. I don't care too much because I like plenty of their regular offerings that suffice for actual use, which I don't see this design doing. I could be wrong though; I think the TILT is ugly as all get out, but it seems to be an excellent user.

Not getting into the current conversation, just saying I hope they use the new detent system on future production models.

Yup, some of the tech is neat. None of it looks to actually improve performance, but it's neat. And when it filters down to affordable, attractive knives I may care. We are, however, discussing this particular knife. Which looks like a jar of smashed buttholes.

Yea buddy, it's class acts like yourself that the knife manufacturers are looking to for advice. Yep, a real product reviewer you are.

Maybe if you did not use terms like smashed buttholes someone MIGHT give a rats patoot what you think.

Since it is entirely off topic, I welcome your doing a little research and starting a nice discussion thread with some facts about ZT Elmax and how it had a negative effect on ZT. If you do, you will find that ZT sold all the Elmax they could get their hands on, and eventually ran out of supply. Must have really sucked, but only if you use the vast resource on this board.

threads like this are exactly why ZT left this forum. Its an LE, if a handfull of BF haters dont buy it then it takes 2min for them to sell out instead of 1min. big deal. Share your feedback, feedback is love...good or bad. However, half the posts on this thread are repeats of the same constant drivel mixed with jabs at fellow forumites that may actually enjoy the piece. No actual constructive criticism , just jabs and slams. what benefit is that. Im sure the only thing ZT Marketing associates read this forum for is to get a good laugh while sharing beers after work.

I remember the big stink about it on here. IIRC one person started it and it just snowballed . Not looking to argue here .

A search a few years back will show all the zt /Elmax drama . For the record I've always been a fan of ZT , I guess we agree to disagree but I believe forums can help or forums can hurt a company. Hell some companies if it wasn't really for forums they wouldn't even have advertisement . 90% of their advertising comes off of forum announcements etc .

They used to sell them through dealers. Not anymore. That information is still current on the ZT website.
